Mot- How much do I have to PayPal you to send me a Japanese girlfriend? (preferably not chubby or balding!). Op- you will love the retracting mirrors. I use 'em several times daily.

It would be cheaper than sending you a headlight washer nozzle, that's for sure! :p

I actually know a woman who would like to marry a foreigner (not chubby or balding :D), but not sure if she would be good enough for you. :hillbilly:

This reminds me, I need to pick up some parts today!

Do you happen to have the mirror schematic too. Also, do you have any pics from the last time you were fixing something in your doors?I am in need of a few pictures of the harness that the mirror 7 pin (pictured above) plugs into.

Just trying to find out what wire goes where.

Speaking of headlight nozzles Mot, how much for one of those? I bought an FJ80 headlight washer kit but need some other stuff to retro it to an FZJ80 setup but sadly one of them was broken.

What do you mean by the mirror schematic?

And I haven't had to fix anything in my doors, yet. I have pics of the harnesses/connectors that are shown on the same page of the EWD(sp) if that would help, at least in that department.

It wouldn't happen to be the LH (USDS) one, would it???

If so, I've got a used one that I can part with. :grinpimp:

The connector types(numbers?) that I got above are "K1" and "L1".

Now, I thought we would have to have ten(or 12)-digit numbers for any Toyota parts, but/so I'm not sure about these guys...

I get all my headlight washers from Mot. In fact, I break them off periodically simply for the pleasure of dealing with him. And they are much easier to get from him than hunting around fruitlessly in NA.

just hook it up to a 12vol power supply and see what does what ive got a 7amp one to loan ya

LOL!!

I just picked up what you ordered, like, forever ago, now!

Yeah, it's about friggin time, I know!!!

They'll be on their way either today or tomorrow!

Thanks again!

I wasn't worried, and it wasn't that long ago...

cool to know
i didnt even know they had mirrors on 80s that do that

Not sure how useful it would be unless your garage was pretty tight.

I used to use mine whenever I parked the truck, as well as when I had to go through narrow streets.

On a side note -This project was sidelined due to lack of paint. Who would think that Duplicolor White #8801578 spray cans would be in such short supply.

Apparently, they are a discontinued item according to Advance, O'Reilly and Parks Auto Parts. I searched all over town for three days and was finally able to find one rattle can today.

So stock up if you see it.

Also, the Toyota White 045 paint code on the pre-'98 US 80's has been replaced with Super White. So be careful if you have color mixed at a paint shop. Chances are it won't match. I guess that explains why the PO of my 80 had a replacement flare painted in Super White.

Well I ended up getting the mounts painted up and re-installed the DS mirror only to find out that the mount is angled back too much to work on a LHD vehicle. Off of the car the angle difference between the LHD & RHD mirrors didn't appear to be that much though. It bolted up just fine. It's just the angle that mirror faces. On the driver side, with the mirror fully deflected out I still saw 1/2 to 3/4 of the side of my 80. I didn't even bother bolting the PS side mirror up.

Do any of you guys know if the folding mirror was ever an option on a LHD vehicle in a another market like Europe or Asia? If so, where can I get the triangular mount the bolts to the door?...Mot????

They bolt up fine but angled back too much???

So is it something like that you can use the existing mounts to get it to hold the mirror, but when you look at it from the DS one(both?) of the mirror(s) is/are angled too far back so you can't reall see what you're supposed to see? Even if you tweaked/adjusted the mirror itself?

If that were the case can you fab up a gasket of some sort so the angle would be "correct" (and paint it to match) for the LHD 80?

As far as the market(s) that these mirrors were available for, I only know of Japan, MAYBE Aussie market as well (RHD). I have wondered about Europe and other areas, but I have no idea!

Good luck!!

OK, you musta just added that part. :hillbilly:

Are you talking about the gasket (black, ABS kinda thingy???)

Do you think they differ between the RHD and LHD models or if you had them from the RHD market, you think it would work for you?

Yes, they bolt up just fine.

I have the JDM RHD power folding mirrors & my US manual folding mirrors, I interchanged the shells so that I wouldn't have to paint them too. The mounts are definetly specific to LHD or RHD applications.

The only parts that are different are the mounts (triangular-bolts to door), the mirror glass, the black plastic bottom cover plate, and the frame that holds the mirror motor/ power folding motor & wiring plug. The black triangular rubber/plastic gasket that goes between the door and mount are the same. It's even stamped with the same part number. It is the horizontal tab that is molded into the triangular piece that bolts to the door. The mirror rotates inward on the mount. (see 2nd pic in Post #2, and only pic in post #4 - white is US, Green is JDM)

When looking at it from the top, it is angled to far aft. The mirror can't be adjusted, unfortunately. If shims or an angled insert plate was used between the mount & door, the threaded female ends would not line up with the mounting holes correctly. Unfortunately as well, the US bases don't have the mounting holes/threads to accomodate the JDM mirror frame (see pics above).

A LHD power folding mount mount would solve my problem.

So what are you going to do? :frown:

I'm sorry, but I failed to see the pic of the mounting holes;/threads (or lack of them) in the pic(s) above (I'm dense).

It's not something that you can (have someone) fab (it) up?

I guess if we were to fab up something it would be easier to do something to the door than the mirror frame/base. If you have to put/weld an angled spacer and cut/make a new thread, etc... would that take care of the problem? (I'm probably not helping, eh?)

MOT - The threads of those weren't visible in my previous pics, sorry. I just put the US mirrors back on untill I can find the parts. I have searched for a LHD 80 in a non-NA market that had this option but I have had no luck. I did learn that LHD 80's were sold in Europe though. Is there any chance that you can hit up your parts catalog that you used to find those Euro leveler headlights?I guess the worst case is that I can't find the part that I need and will have to take both the US and JDM mounts to a shop and have something special made up. I'm sure that will be pricey though and a PITA. Here are some pics with the JDM then US mirrors on my 80. Notice the angle.
