I e-mailed JB and received an e-mail about 30 minutes later:

"Michael,

I have gotten a ladder repair kit ready to be sent out to you today.

As for the cracking by the ladder mounts, that is not a problem. Our own personnel tents have the same cracking.

Now with the whole in the roof, you can purchase a fiberglass repair kit at your local boat shop. Also you may want to go to your local James Baroud Dealer in Calgary ( The Gear Shop) and let them look at the whole in the roof.

If you have any other questions please feel free to contact me.

Thanks

Craig"

I'm pleased at how fast they got back to me, and that they sent out the repair kit at no charge.

I'm a little surprised that the cracking fiberglass around the mounts is normal, but I guess that's that.

Hopefully this thread helps anyone with similar issues!

How is cracking around the ladder mount not a problem? Cracking of any type would be a concern with me. Maybe that is part of the standard equipment. Hmmmm

I was surprised at that as well. I assume it is an aesthetic issue, and not structural.

That has been updated I believe in the new model

I can see they've updated the tents with panoramic screens and revised the lifting struts, but I see no mention of altering the ladder mounts? Looking at this picture, the mounts for the ladder do look entirely different.

I've owned 2 James Baroud roof tents and I've had major issues with both of them. Cracking of the fiber glass being one.

I honestly don't think 'OK 4WD', who has the main James Baroud USA account, is really setup to deal with the financial implications of major tent warranties....mostly because they don't produce and own product they are just reselling + the logistical gap between the USA and Portugal. It's going to be interesting to see what's going on in 4.5 years once more of these tents are out in the wild.

I think those cracks are unacceptable for how young the tents are...but even if you bought the tent brand new from them they sadly wouldn't do anything
