With that done it was time for rims and tires. I opted fo Volk TE37's 18x9 +0 in Diamond dark gunmetal and Toyo Tires Open Country AT2s in 265x17r 18. I like the look with the Nebula grey color of the truck. Some minor molding of the front inner fender liners and minor trimming in the rear allowed them to fit without a lift. On the FJ I went with a pretty tall and wide tire. On the GX I chose to stay closer to stock size and just did a plus-1 size tire to keep the gearing close to stock and hopefully not crush my gas mileage.

Can you verify that tire size? Was it 265/65/18 or 265/70/18? I am wanting to run 18x9 wheels on my stock height with 265/65 but debating between the +0 and +20 offset. Wasn’t sure if the rubbing issues you had before molding was due to the tire size or offset

265/70r18 on 18x9 +0 TE37s. The rub was a very easy fix that I could accomplish in about 15 minutes now that I know what to do.

Took the truck on a couple adventures this month. Went to the beach and was approached a few times about the new tent and awning. Really nice time on some very deep and soft sand on Ormond Beach.

Also went to check out a local "overland" store, which was disappointing, but took the opportunity to hit some trails in Richloam. The area is notoriously wet and most of the trails were flooded due to heavy local rains over the last couple months. I just took dirt roads that ran along side of the main road so I could continue on my way home but have a little fun.

Then I got some new Nitto Trail Grapplers in 295/65r18. I wanted to go bigger but after waiting 4 months for new tires to be available I took the size I could get. I would really like a set of their new Recon Grapplers since they seem to target the overland crowd with better on road manners while also having a more aggressive offroad look and tread. Better than the Ridge Grapplers in both respects. We'll see when they come out for 18" rims. For now, these will be good as the truck isn't a daily driver and is more of a trip toy that doesn't see high mileage.

Finally got my OVS 270 degree awning. I like it, so far, but I'm not 100% sold. The 270 degree part I like, but for $1,000 I think I would have liked it to be a little more stable and well built. Nothing particularly wrong with it, but there seems to be a lot of flex, more that I'm used to with higher end products. I don't necessarily want to shill out $1,500 for the AluCab or Bush Company but I can see the value in it. We'll see how this holds up. It does offer a lot of coverage and it's not terrible to put away by one person, which was the idea of the entire thing.

What I do want is the Rigd Ultra Table. With the swing out folded out, and the table dropped, everything is under cover. I can have a kitchen area out back and a living area on the side of the vehicle which will be nice.

Nice setup! Now all you need is a good excuse to give work and get some time off to use it!!

I'm heading up to VA in a couple weeks for the Overland Expo East. Going to take a coupe days to get up there and try to do some sight seeing and camping. Heading to West Virginia after the show to go camping a few days, then taking a couple days to get home. I should finally be able to test out all the new additions from my last trip, the new tent and awning being the big ones. It's been tough the summer between the extreme heat and the daily rain. Camping in this weather would be down right awful, so I've been really looking forward to this trip.

With RTT's it a whole lot nicer if the weather goes bad. No muddy ground tents, tarps, fly's, etc.
The only thing you usually need to do is just pop the RTT when you get home and let it dry out a few hours in the sun, if you packed it while it was still wet.

Agreed. I prefer camping in the rain actually, so that hasn't been the issue in itself. 90 degrees at 9 at night in the rain sucks though. The humidity is nasty and as soon as it stops the mosquitoes come out. Looking very much forward to camping in some cooler temps.

Looking forward to the Expo. It should be a good event.

Expo was pretty cool. Not what the event could have been as a ton of venders didn't show up and almost all the food trucks were no shows, but it was still a good show. The weather ended up being pretty solid and it was nice to escape from work for a bit and enjoy all the new part of the build. The new tent and awning are winners and made life easy and comfortable om the trail.

That slide-out for the tray is really trick! Great idea Rigid!

Finally got the winch installed. I went with a 12k Warn Evo with a synthetic line and Warn Sidewinder thimble. The bumper had to come off, which wasn't a huge deal using an engine hoist. There was only one hose in the way, which I believe is the transmission cooler line (fill me in if I'm wrong) and so just bent the brackets and moved the line back a bit. Overall, easy install. The only thing I didn't like were the bolts Warn sent out with the fairlead, so off to the hardware store I went. Black chrome carriage bolts took the place and I think look pretty cool. I didn't realize the controller could be used wired or by bluetooth which is a nice bonus. On to the pictures:

Kind of related, I have to capped plugs in front of my ratiator. What are they for? I haven't seen them mentioned before So I'm curious what wiring is there and what I can add.

Great looking rig and build. Would you have any pictures of how the front tow points you have are mounted with the ironman bumper and what brand are they? One of the things I don't like about the ironman is no recovery points. I have a set of treaty oak recovery points but can't figure out how to mount them with the bumper. And I don't necessarily like that you can't side load them and you really need a bridle so the load is distributed.

Thanks! It's coming along nicely I think. These are probably the best photos I have. They have to go on before the bumper and even then the driver's side was a pain. The tolerances are very tight getting the bolts in. My recovery points are actually from Ironman, but they no longer offer them.

Also, your side bottom pieces look off to me, maybe it's just the picture. When my bumper was first installed the bottom corners were actually installed on the wrong sides and it didn't sit right (they will install backwards and upside down. Again, it may just be the angle of the photo, or they may be on the wrong sides like mine were. This is mine from the front now.
