I've got bad news

I saw him this afternoon. When I first went in he was alert and talked about the accident. After about 20 minutes he got groggy and wanted to sleep. The anesthetic was wearing off and he was getting pretty sore. He said that his recovery may take up to 10 months, so he won't be working. I'd say that he's damn lucky to be alive right now. He was hanging on to the bumper when it started to tip off the hoist, and his legs went under the Cruiser as it was coming down. He could have died under there if those people had not heard him screaming over on River Road. The doctors had to insert a metal rod on his left thigh bone to hold it all together. Lots of laserations on his arms and legs. I think he'd appreciate visitors to come and offer their support. He's on ward 10D in the Pattison Pavillion at Vancouver General.

Millson update

(Tues, 11:50am)

Just talked to Rob. He was fairly groggy and clearly sore. His spirit seemed pretty muted, which probably has as much to do with the drugs as it does with the accident.

He estimates he'll be in the hospital till Monday.

Please call me if you need extra bodies for a shop clean-up.

Phil,

2 days max. Waybill# 71094965174.

Be nice to him. He may let you play with it.

Saw Rob this afternoon. He's looking better than yesterday. We moved his leg to a different position. He has feeling in it OK, so no nerve damage but the bone and muscle is pretty messed up. The U bolt plate came down on his L femer. He has 21 stitches in the top of his head. Some of his teeth are knocked crooked, but he has to wait until he gets out of the hospital to see a dentist. I have his hospital phone number for club members who phone me and request it or email me at home. Leave a message and I'll get it back to you.

P.S. I hear that Dan M. has a broken hand now. Sorry to hear that, I hope it didn't ruin his sex life!

Hi Gang,

I visited Rob for about half an hour this morning. I was there when you called Clarence.
He was obviously in pain as he periodically pressed the morph button. But his spirits seemed OK. He thinks he'll be in VGH until Monday.

I think Rob is coming to terms with the accident, the fact that he is lucky to be alive, and the issues regarding his shop. He may need to shut down soon as finances will understandably be an issue.

Rob is a very fine man. We wish him a speedy, and as Phil said "uncomplicated", recovery.

I think as I was leaving, another Cruiserhead (who I did not recognize) was just arriving. :)

Sincerely,

Bruce

Geeze! I just happened to check out you Coastal Cruiser's folks and this showed up, Very glad to see that Rob is in as good a shape as reported, Sue and I wish him a good recovery , also very impressed with the comraderie you folks extend on one another, I wish we were closer to just lend a hand. You guy's are still like family. Please tell Rob to take it slow and steady on the recovery. And holler if I can do anything to help down here. Sincerely, John and Sue Pardi, Camino, Calif.

Hi John (and Sue), Glad to see you lurking here. I'll be seeing Rob tomorrow and will give him your best. Funny, Rob and I were talking about Rubithon today, how the Canadian buck can't be used as an excuse for not travelling down there, the price of fuel on the other hand... :crybaby: Last year we took a month off and travelled around BC, this year I won't have that opportunity, but next year :bounce: if your still willing to host us. Not sure if it would be Rubithon or maybe sometime in July. Here's hoping.
Cheers,
Phil

Rob is feeling somewhat better this morning (Wednesday). He's been on the phone talking to customers and friends, trying to straighten out things as best he can at this time. He must be improved because he is eating and complaining about hospital food-UGH! Even the ABC Restaurant was better than this swill!
The quacks are going to try to ease him out of bed for a few minutes to assess his physiotherapy prospects, take him off the intervenous morphine, and also to take the catheter out of his Dick. He has a small fracture in his hip too. He's hoping they might discharge him by Monday, but he might be pretty limited in his mobility. I would guess he'd be in a wheelchair and crutches for quite a while, not cruising the bars just yet for action.
