How are the MTR's on the highway? Are they pretty quiet? How many miles are they good for?

Awesome pictures by the way. :grinpimp:

MTRs are fine on the highway, and not that loud. They are much quieter than BFG MTs. It's a good all around tire.

Do it dude! I started my SOA conversion over the summer between Jr and Senior year. It took me a long time from start to finish to collect the parts and finish the conversion, but it can be done!

Dylan

I save parts for 5 yrs before I did mine took a month of weekend to do it ... now I want to do it to the other 60 as well

A bit of an Update

I just got back from the Rubicon leading the wagon run in the 60.

Some things that really work well:

37 inch kevlar MTRs

Marlin's Toybox with 4.7 gearing--really, this is the way to go. 241:1 changes your perspective and saves your body. I did use double low several times creeping past bad spots on the trail.

Air lockers

Chevy 63 inch rear springs--3/4 ton of course. These are awesome-any SOA should use these. Don't bother with stock springs.

4x4 Labs rear bumper kit-fun to build and works great.

30 spline Longfields-never complained once even backing uphill in double low.

6 shooter knuckles-not one stud loosened at all

Bilstein 5125 shocks

4x4 Labs 6 stud high-steer

WARN 8274-winching out of the snow bogs

Anyway, it was awesome and did the job it was built for. I'll up date with pics when available.

How much did the chevy springs add to the height of the truck? How far did you have to move the hanger? I'm running stock with add a leaves and I don't mind them but I'm sure there not going to last forever. I have a 06 2500hd and In that application unloaded its a bumpy ride but how does it ride in the cruiser compared to stock springs? Personally I find the stock springs even with aals a little soft on my spring over. I'm going to be adding some bumpers and sliders so that will add a few hundred lbs in the next week or two as well so I'm sure that will only accelerate the stock springs demise.

The hangers moved forward about 8 inches or so. That's approximate, you'll need to measure from the center pin to the forward eye of both springs and move the hanger forward by the difference. The rear shackle hanger also needs to move back. I'm running a 5 inch shackle which is the shortest I thought I could get away with.

The ride hight is higher by about 1 inch, but because they take weight so much better, they sag way less with a load. They are also impressively more comfortable.

Yeah for a great working rig and glad it was a safe trip! Looking forward to the pics.

I want moonshine to grow up to be this truck. All I need is a bucket full of hundreds and I'll be golden:lol:

Thank you! It did the job it was built for last week. I was very happy with all but a few tiny details-like tire rubbing on the slider a bit. Other than that, it was a good first outing.

Here's a pic in Big Sluice taken and posted by Vette60:

Lookin good

Looks good Drew! love the looks, clean lines and well build 60. Stuill running stock rear axle or did the 1 ton make it in yet?

whats the highway rpm with the 37's, h41, and 4.56's?

Wish I could have made it to the Con' this year. There's always next year!

The 14 bolt is on the floor of my Garage. I need to complete the disc brake conversion an decide on a bunch of details. That's going to be my winter project.

The stock axle has PolyPerformance shafts-so far so good.

Highway RPM is about 2600 RPM at 60-65. It's pretty acceptable. My goal was to keep the drive train short with the H41 and use my H55 on another project.

Plan on Rubicon next year for sure. You need to come back and get a dent or two.

I think we'll be seeing Mike at Dusy.

Can you get a good side shot with the 37's and a frame height under drivers door

I am pretty sure I was the only wagon that got a dent last year? How did yours fare getting in and out? I am sure the toybox mitigated a lot of stress with the clutch.

Mike is looking forward to Dusy. Another trip I wish I could take!

I got an 1/8 inch dent in the gutter on like the last 200 yards of the trail, other than that I got through clean.

The Toybox absolutely rocks and completely changes the way you drive the truck. In double low it's so slow that it doesn't slip much and so you rarely need the lockers. It was interesting, but so slow I'm sure it drove people behind me crazy!

I drove much, and maybe most, of the trail in Low Toybox, High transfer. In double low, you spend a lot of time in 3rd and 4th gear, and even that's too slow. I can't say enough good things about the Toybox. I wish Marlin made one for the 80 series.

Yep, I'll be there. Next month I'm dedicating some time to the rig to prep for the trip. I've got to re-make my belly skid.

Will you be bringing this 60?
