i have an 87 runner... stock suspension... i got to the point where its all taken apart... but im stuck at getting the freakin thing out... and i cant exactly take the spindle off due to the fact that some idiot welded the big nut in place with a few spot welds, and i dont want to risk the chance of ruining the threads... any suggestions on how to get the half shaft out with out getting too big of a headache... any suggestion on where to start would be great

I'd consider the big nut toast. BTW there should be two and a special lock washer with tabs that goes between them. At some point you will need to adjust or regrease the bearings, and or even replace them. You can likely remove it with an angle grinder with cutoff blade. Cut above the threading tops, then use a wedge or pry bar to break it. The threads where the welds are will need to be cleaned out. Careful use of a dremel with cutoff discs can clean em out. You could also use a big thread cutter with dies, but them's spendy. New spindles is maybe cheaper. When cleaning the threads out, use a nut and check em carefully for fit. Only remove the minimal amount needed.

Thank you Digital. Altered, I'd keep my eyes open for a some new spindles (find someone doing a solid axle swap and you could probably get the whole front end for cheap...) Like this: 85-95 Toyota IFS 4x4 complete hub to hub. Need spare parts?

Tack welded bearing adjustment nuts sounds very scary to me....

i had a buddy help me out... and i would buy new to me parts, but im unemployed... but we were able to get it out by disconnecting the lbj... im guessing not the correct way but its out now... now i just need to get the new boot on and try to get it back together without ruining anything

well.. whatever that big nut is called... yes... with two spot welds... dont know why someone would do that, or when it happened... but hopefully i wont be needing to worry about having to take it all apart any time soon... but the hard part was taking it out... boot was easy, i mean really easy to put on... and it was relatively easy to put back together... now i know not to disconnect the lower ball joint... only the top

The only thing I can guess is they didn't have the 54mm or 2-1/8" socket but they did have a welder :hillbilly:

well i did buy it from one... so theres a good chance he did it... since he also cut the front part of the frame lowered it down 4 inches and welded flat stock to reconnect it to the rest of the frame... surprisingly straight too... and goes down the road straight too...

the first one is the drivers side inner frame... second one is the passanger side outer.. and the third is drivers side

kinda scary lookin at first... had to scratch my head and wonder if itll actually hold and drive down the road straight... and with two somewhat long trips, one about 500 round trip and another about 300 round trip... only thing that went bad was the rear u-joint... otherwise its fine

All the more reason to get new spindles.... There is supposed to be 2 big nuts that you tighten together with a locking washer, not tack welds holding your tire on. If those welds fail, it's going to be a bad time, and someone could get hurt or worse. Please change them as soon as you can!!!

x2 ASAP

i wish i could... but being unemployed with no money prevents me buying anything... luckily tho i have another truck that i drive daily... and the nuts are there... but theyre welded onto the spindle, i shouldve been abit more specific... but if i had my old job they would be replaced without a second look
