Is this necessary- Skid plate foam pad?

I use the OEM foam when I do replace it. It should be replaced about every 5 years. Otherwise it breaks down and hold water, promoting rust.

I feel it helps direct air into radiator. It may also reduce dust & mud in engine bay. But you don't need it as much as skid.

Just did a radiator swap on our '06 LX470 and noticed this foam was saturated with coolant and looked old and tired (it's the original).

I'm sort of an OCD weirdo about using OEM parts and engineering so I decided to replace the foam. Best price I found was a little under $22 from McGeorge Toyota in Virginia, plus $7.84 for shipping to SoCal, so <$30 to my door. My local Toyota Stealership wanted $50+ for the same part.

So @2001LC the verdict is: Keep and replace about every 5 years? I'm in the process of replacing my front skid because it's rusting away and trying to decide if I want to add the foam back in or just remove it.
