I am a pretty broad guy, married, and have a 2 year old so I am looking for a 3-4 person tent. I have done a ton of research and am trying to find the happy middle ground of the size of a fold out tent and the breakdown speed of a hardshell. I also don't want to drop $3K-5K on a tent. So far I'm leaning towards the large Overland Vehicle Systems tent as it seems like a great price for quality but am a little worried about tear down times as I'd like to be able pack up and go on extended trips.

Amy advice is appreciated.

This forum right here, just do a search and start digging.
Expedition Portal website has a lot of really good comparison.
if I was looking at large folding, I’d start here.

I‘d think you can easily find one for less than $3K.
Look at used ads too. Good to start second hand, makes it viable and if you
find it’s not right then you aren’t out a bundle.

I am in a similar boat and the Tuffstuff Alpha looks to be a good starting point for a larger hard shell tent thats within your budget Tuff Stuff® ALPHA™ Hard Top Side Open Tent, Gray, 4 Person

I like that they have an annex option (wish it was included with the tent) and I can do local pick up here in California.

Honestly, I used a Smittybilt for a week straight in Hawaii, and for the price, it was incredibly solid and well-built. Withstood some insane winds.
