Is it worth the extra money to search out 2013'+ ?

My suggestion is to buy the cheapest one regardless of miles BUT with little to no rust. These vehicles will go 500k+ miles easily. The key is to get one cancer free (no rust). Save the money and use it for upgrades or next ride.

Nobody mention ventilated seat? I paid extra for cooled & heated seat which available on 2013 or newer. The heated steering wheel is a nice touch too.

That's one of the features added to LCs in 13 that LX570s have had all along.

Also to be clear to anyone new.. the 08+ LX/13+ LC seats aren't "cooled", but are ventilated.

Yup. LX always a step ahead in term of tech/feature.

I just want to add this point as it was one of the feature that influences my decision on getting 2013/newer vs 2008/2009/2011.

What's the difference?

Ventilation is just moving cabin air through the perforations in the seat bottom and back. Cooling would be cooling it below ambient air temp, like part of the AC system.

I would recommend looking at the "final" result you want your 200 to be in.

For example, and this is just me, I wanted my money to do the most... for me.
  • So I looked at the head unit, and I don't like any of the 200s. 2008-2020, they all are average at best. But I knew that the 2008-2011 had an option for a non-integrated head unit in the US. I viewed it as, "well, there are the only years I know I can dump the integrate screen for a nice Alpine like head unit." Remember, even a 2016-2020 will look old a a hell in 10 years, so who do you switch it out? You might not be able to, but I can with my 2011.
  • Cooled seats, I hate them, that's me.
  • Multi terrain select and more CRAWL control speeds. I'm a lockers guys, so I knew I was putting front and rear lockers in and my personality will never use CRAWL.
  • Nicer looking screen between the speedometer and tech. It's nice.
  • Trailer sway control. That I wanted, as a back up.
  • Blind Spot monitor. I think its great.
  • Turn Assist. Sounds awesome, but I've been doing fine without it on vehicle with worse turning radius. Also the fact that you have to have the center diff unlocked means I will never us it while climbing. So it seems pretty limited in its use compared to my past wheeling experiences.
At the time the smallest price difference I could find between a 2011 and a 2013 was $9000.

$9000 could buy front and rear lockers, 4.88s, a center screen that blows the pants off of anything any 200 will ever get. At that point I have a much more capable 200 than any factory 200 sold in the US and the infotainment will finally be what we all wanted it do be from the get go.

I lost the extra safety features of blind spot monitor, but my 200 is not a daily driver. It's used for only fun, so I'm never rushed, and feel like that takes a lot of potential accidents out fo the equation. Plus, I have since found some really nice aftermarket Blind spot monitors that are very interesting. One of them was on a 200 that came into the shop for sliders and skids, so I got to play with it a bit. Trailer sway control would be a nice feature as I tow pretty dang large loads.

So that's what brought me to my decision. If you don't see yourself wanting lockers, the 2013+ traction features are very nice upgrades. If you don't see yourself caring that the head unit is old, the newer the better. If you like cooled seats, get them. It's what works for you in the absolutely end.

Can you please let me know about the blond spot monitors that you saw added to a 200? This is one thing I REALLY wanted but my 2013 LX doesn’t have them. Always wondered if they could be added aftermarket but wasn’t sure

Thanks a lot everyone this has helped immensely. I will probably be looking at a 13' if not only for the upgraded headlights and stereo. Im not the kind of person that changes out stereos really so I could care less that the head unit is not the latest and greatest. As long as it has Bluetooth capability I'm fine with it.

The toughest pill to swallow is getting rid of a 17' Tacoma and buying a 13' LC for basically the same price I purchased the Tacoma new for. But they are much nicer vehicles. The Tacoma has been a great truck but fit/finish/features has been a bit of a let down. Manual seats in 2017.......

I do keep coming back to LX570 on occasion as there seems to be more "bang for the buck" in the used market but I just dont care for the looks as much and the LC will get modified similar to our Tacoma. The LX seems to have less of an aftermarket parts base which is a down side and I also dont see it holding its value as well as the LC in the short term. Maybe long term they will even a bit out in price like the 100 series trucks seem to have.

Just do it. You will not look back. Tacoma's are a dime a dozen and you will wonder why you ever drove one after making the switch. See my first thread in July...

Forward camera and Bluetooth audio streaming are the only things from the 13 I wish I had in my 08. Maybe open the search up to both. No groundbreaking differences. I’d love ok for vehicles with solid service records as the #1 priority, regardless of the year

The front camera isn't that helpful, the image is pretty terrible. Camera is always dirty, and eventually the super wide fisheye lens gets all pitted.

Bluetooth audio streaming started before the '13 refresh, I had it in my '11.

Another trivial thing that started in '13: turn signals on the mirrors.

My '15 LC does not have BSM or lane assist. But it does have the Pre-Collision Detection, and yes it does wake you up when it engages. I've also had it turn on an error on the center screen when the grille badge gets covered with snow/ice.

Even less reason to narrow the search then to 2013+. Yeah i hear some people love the front camera for those blind steep ups and downs offroad, others think it's pointless. Same with dynamic cruise control. 1 feature i would really love that no year has as far as i know...is headlight lenses that don't go yellow over time. That I'd pay for. 2016+ I really do like the design changes, but between 08 and 13 they are quite similar, so again I'd just look for the truck with the best service record at the price you want, regardless of year.

To your knowledge, is the factory BSM system radar based? I ask because Radar system has a couple functionality based nuances that I wonder if the factory system have.

I don’t know......but it works fine. No false alarm so far in my 2 months of ownership.

I had an '11 for a year, upgraded to a '15 (which is extremely unusual for me), and am really glad I did. There are a lot of minor upgrades that just make it worth the price bump. For instance, the audio and phone integration is MUCH better and smoother, I had occasional connectivity problems with the '11. The climate system is better behaved (when I shut the AC off, it stays off even when I push the AUTO button).

Yeah i hear some people love the front camera for those blind steep ups and downs offroad, others think it's pointless.

I wouldn't say it's pointless, just not a compelling feature. I park every day in a huge parking lot, and it's a tight squeeze, I don't think the spots are the usual full 9' wide. So I've used the lines in the front camera to make sure I was centered, and not encroaching into the spot in front or behind. I have not needed it off-road yet, but honestly so far I've only done some easy forest roads.

Same with dynamic cruise control.

I actually really like this feature, it was one of the bigger reasons I upgraded. I know it is not perfect, but I do use it and like it.

Ya, you and every manufacturer. They all do it.

Wax your new lenses regularly (one per quarter), and put on a UV protection spray regularly (I use 303). When I purchase a car near new and use this method, I've never had issues with yellowing lenses.

Some have success with this:

I’ll second KLFs statement about a bunch of little things that add up into what feels like a much more modern vehicle.

Personally I’m perfectly happy with the entune audio and frankly outdated Navigation. I use my phone before leaving to plan a route and only really use the nav map to see streets and plan for exits.. the audio itself is great in my opinion, when paired with Bluetooth from my phone.

Also on 17 taco vs 13 200. When you get it and drive for a while, it’ll clear it is MUCH more vehicle. Take all the things that have made toyotas great for so long and distill that into a flagship vehicle. You have a landcruiser.

Oh and the aftermarket for LXs is lagging but will come around.
