Since I am too chicken to venture into chat you guys have to put up with this thread.

I just got a new iPhone last weekend the kick A$$ 32 GB 3GS and I came across this App (AccuTerra Mobile | Home) for just $.99. Before I download it I was curious if any of you had it yet. If not I will more than happy to be the guinny pig.

cool

I wish it had more areas available. Does have Anza Borrego:clap: Looks like the maps are pretty big, so I wonder if it will eat up all my phones extra space. i have a 16G 3G:frown:

OK so here is the update on the program.
So far I only have 360 MB of Apps and I would guess that this one app was 150 to 200 MB of that. It took quite a while to download and you must download where you have wifi.

So as a test I just recorded a trip to the Home Depot in the cruiser. It will automatically mark your position or you can "drop a bread crumb" whenever you like. You may also choose to snap a picture whenever you want and it will mark it on your map. And at the end of your trip you have the option to cancel it, save it, send it via e-mail, or send it to your Face Book account.
I don't currently have a face book account so I sent it via e-mail and I was a little disapointed in what I received. There was no map or photo link just this:

Hi,

I used AccuTerra on my iPhone to record an adventure. Check it out:

Click here to view it in Google Maps. This link expires on: Monday October 19, 2009.

Story: Home to Home Depot.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Adventure Statistics:
Time:

Start: 1:27:52 PM
Stop: 1:37:32 PM
Duration: 9 min 40 sec

Distance: 3.4 miles

Speed:

Average Speed: 20.9 miles/hr
Max Speed: 51.4 miles/hr
Average Pace: 2:52 mm:ss/mile

Elevation:

Minimum: 0 feet
Maximum: +177 feet

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The AccuTerra applications are available on Apple's iPhone App Store:

I am not sure if it gives you a map and photo when you send it to your face book account but it would be cool if it did.

The other downfall is the map can only zoom in so far, and on this little of a trip you really couldn't see much detail or determine the difference between each marker. So it's no Spot GPS device but you do get some cool elevation change info as well as speed info.

Apparently there is a HD version of this app but I have yet to find it to see how much that cost or how much larger that file is.

OK so I crashed my iPhone last week because I didn't have my settings set-up in iTunes correctly and since then I have been getting all of my Apps back. And so I have since re-downloaded this Accu Terra app and spent a little more time on it.
It turns out it just takes more $$ to get this thing better and better. You have the option of downloading full state maps to add to this app for $1.99 but if your state is large like CA then you have two Northern CA maps and one SoCal map that goes up as far as Bakersfield inland not coastal.
They also have categories for National Parks, State Parks & Recreational Areas. So right now I am downloading the Southern CA map and the description says it includes Santa Barbara, LA, O.C., San Diego, Sequoia, Death Valley, Joshua Tree. National Parks Sequoia, Los Padres, Clevland, Santa Cruz & Catalina. The size of this Map is 615 MB.
The National Park Maps are $2.99 each and say HD for High Deff. and it includes hundreds of biking trails, hikes from colorful Golden trail to strenuous 14 mi round trip hikes to Telescope Peak. The size of these types of Maps are 275 MB.
The State Park Maps which are mostly $.99 for Anza Borrego HD at 255 MB and Kokee HI at 19 MB to one Map for $2.99 of Adirondack, NY at 956 MB
The Recreational Area Maps such as Aspen, CO & Lake Tahoe, CA are also in HD and are all $2.99 ea. and the Tahoe map is 152 MB and includes dozens of camp grounds, miles of multi use trails including the 165 mi Tahoe Rim trail.

So once you download the SoCal map you then have options of how you want to see Google maps; Standard, Satellite or Hybrid. You can also decide if you want it to record your elevation and whether you are hiking, biking or driving. You can also have it chime every 1/4 mile to 5 miles.

So I will give you more feedback once I use this even more now that I have some maps. So far I am into this for $5, cheaper than most maps.
