Back on topic (not that I'm not enjoying where this thread has headed)...
An issue with rear LED taillamps is that, while they provide margninally better light to the direct rear, the light they shine to the side isn't as good as a standard tailamp.
LED's are more of a 'directional' light than a regular bulb. You might get more attention from behind you, but that guy about to T-bone you has less warning than before.

What is your defination of "upper middle class professionals" and all the "teenagers with rich parents, dumbasses, and bling bling"?!! You do not know us and just judge us that way, seems like you are the "impatience" and IMMATURE one here!!! Anyone who likes a led tail light doesn't mean that they are "teenagers with rich parents" ok!! If you dun like it, that is your problem. Do not simply address such a "friendly" remark!! And I am not into lowered scene or anything like that, I ve been wheeling with my highly modified 4runner at some the most extremely trails that people stay away. We are here to learn and share, not to "accuse"!
