Hey everyone,
I just sent in my application on the club website. I've been a lurker on Mud for over a decade but never created an account, basically just functioning as a leach that absorbed the wealth of information on here without ever contributing. My wife and I moved to AZ a few years ago from KY/VA, and we currently live in Tempe with our 2 year-old daughter, bird dogs, and a stable of Toyota SUVs.
Rundown on current vehicles in descending order of model year:
2000 UZJ100 Land Cruiser - I just bought this 1-family-owned rig from southern CA about a month ago. They "upgraded" to a 5th gen 4runner in 2012/13 and effectively just parked this 100 thereafter. As you can imagine for a vehicle that didn't get much use for 6 years, it needs some work. I'm in the process of cleaning out and replacing much of the cooling system, which has been annoying...At some point, the owners mixed green and red coolant
, which has resulted in some nasty $hit in the cooling system. Fortunately, no overheating, no coolant in oil, no oil in coolant, and 10 block tests that I did all came back negative. Nevertheless, I'm on the 12th gallon of distilled water today and it's finally almost spitting out clear stuff. Will wait for completely clear output before throwing in a new radiator, hoses, heater hoses and Ts, etc. Once that's done, then I'll move on to replacing most of the what appears to be original steering and suspension components (shocks, CV boots, BJs, bushings in upper and lower front control arms, TREs), as well as the oil/fluid in trans, t-case, diffs, and power steering (PO ran PS fluid instead of ATF for who knows how long
). It is also needs a passenger front fender (truck backed into it in a parking lot), which I've had no luck finding in Toyota black (202) at local junkyards, so I may end up buying an aftermarket replacement from PartsGeek and painting. I don't have any major mods planned right now other than the larger tires that I put on within 30 minutes of buying it (285/75 R16 BFG KO2s), replace the saggy rear coils with OME 865s, and LC Phil's mudflap deletes (I happen to like the medium gray metallic rear bumper cover). However, I've been considering a manual hub swap with part-time 4wd conversion, but haven't made up my mind yet.
2000 Toyota 4runner Limited 4x4 - Bought in 2011 from the second owner. Bone stock but has rear e-locking diff. Will be selling ASAP to pay for 100 series parts.
1998 Toyota 4runner Limited 4x4 - Bought in 2005 from the original owner. Suspension lift with 2" up front (Toytec coils around Tundra Bilstein adjustable height struts) and 3.5" in the rear (OME 861 FJ80 coils with extended length Tundra Bilstein shocks); TJM T17 front bumper and a custom rear bumper that I built a few years ago, with spare tire carrier and cooler rack
on a swingout; 285/75 R16 Cooper STT Pro tires; swapped in a manual J-shift transfer case to get rid of the electronic BS; custom longer rear driveshaft; in the process of regearing diffs to 4.88 and retrofitting e-locker in rear axle...Probably will stop dumping money into this rig now that we have the 100.
1990 Toyota 4runner SR5 4x4 - Bought in 2016 from the original owner. Other than tires (31x10.50 R15 BFG KO2s) and routine maintenance, this rig is bone stock. May swap in a used 5vz-fe engine if the current 3vz-e ever blows head gaskets (HGs were replaced under Toyota recall 60k miles ago and are holding on strong
).
Current extended family-owned Toyotas:
2019 Tacoma Off-Road 4x4 w/ 6-speed manual trans, locking diffs, and 2" suspension lift (brother's); 2015 Rav4 (mom's); 2002 4runner Sport 4x4 (dad's); 2000 4runner SR5 4x4 w/locking diffs (dad's); 1990 Toyota Pickup single cab (dad's); and the one that started my family's Toyota addiction: 1973 FJ40 (My dad bought it new from Toyota in 73, the first vehicle that he ever purchased. Was his daily driver until 1992; still ran and was driveable then, but rust had consumed it and pieces of the body were falling off at every bump in the road. We initiated a complete frame-off restoration in 1998 and finished it in 2004).
