Howdy from Presskit
Howdy from Prescott! After a few years away, I'm back in the Land Cruiser world as of Sunday, when the money we got from the sale of our entirely practical RAV4 went into a 1985 FJ60. Didn't realize how much I missed the smell of gear oil.
Truck has 251K on the clock, but passed a compression test with flying colors. It's exceptionally clean (when I was active with the Capitol Land Cruiser Club in the DC area, we'd speak in hushed tones about these mythical "Arizona Trucks"), well maintained and largely unmolested, with just a mild spring lift and Aussie mirrors. Took a quick cell phone picture before I hit the road from Chandler back to Prescott;

This is the second Cruiser I've owned, the first being a 1973 FJ40 that was a classic farmer's barn find -- 16,000 miles on the odometer, hadn't been registered since '75 but used regularly to herd dairy cattle & hunt deer, came with a pintle hook military trailer, and was mine for $800 and all the rust that twenty years of Pennsylvania winters could dish out. I learned a lot and made a lot of friends on the old Land Cruiser Mailing List, did a lot of trail riding in the mid-Atlantic and a couple of trips to New Hampshire for the Catamount Cruiser Challenge, and still miss that old truck.
One of my friends from those days greeted the news of this new ride with a smile -- "You can check out any time you want, but you can never leave. Welcome back to the cult."
It feels good to be back.
Cheers,
