Hello, I'm Jon I live in surprise . I just bought my first 40 in janruary. It's a mostly stock white 1968 with a lot of work needed, but for now it runs and drives "legally". I am looking forward to gaining much knowelege from MUD in the process of owning, working on and upgrading my 40.

Howdy! Welcome aboard. If your rig is close to stock and white, then you should check out my thread about renting it out for a photo shoot. It pays $$$.. John

Thanks John,

hey everyone...my name is dan and i recently picked up a 91 Land Cruiser,162k on the 3fe engine (the engine that is not supposed to have any head gasket issues)...test drove it twice over 2 separate days - drove great! bought it, driving home, filled it with gas...and it starts running like poop...passed emissions...idles really really bad then dies...replaced the fuel filter - nothing...replaced the fuel pump & fuel strainer - nothing...take it to the dealer where they charge me $108 and tell me that there's low compression in cylinders 1 & 2...want to charge me $3200+ to open it up and look inside...tell them no thankyou...

anyway, we get it home and start to tear into it last friday...saturday morning comes and lo and behold - a tear in the head gasket between cylinders 1&2! well, now seems like as good a time as any to replace some belts & hoses, plus i found a place in tempe that does fuel injector cleaning...so now it's time to just button it back up and take her wheeling (oh yeah, this is gonna be my wife's car - she wants the lift, bumpers, winch & tires :) )

so, $165 later, she'll be up & running!

Howdy y'all,

name is Jason Currently living in Round rock Texas, but moving to Scottsdale area soon (before school starts). Sold a fj40 with a Big block and lot of axle stuff, now am building a 89 toyota extra cab long bed truck. Currently it has a strait axle conversion with chromos an high pinion with a detroit. Out back it has high pinion and spool. I have a 4.8 v8 that should be in the truck before I leave with a 700r4, marlin doubler. motor is already wired and ran with computer. It rolls on 37" boggers and a 5 inch lift for now. It will not be done and will finish it up there if I find a house with a shop. I will be jobless when I get there and will have a little time. My wife likes wheeling and the kid loves it. We also ride quads. I will post pics when I get the motor in.

Welcome Jason, hope to see you at one of the upcoming meets with your rig when completed. sounds pretty cool.

Afternoon,

I have been bouncing around the national Mud forum on and off getting some helpful tips, and thought it best to check in with the locals.

I am kind of new to Cruisers. Always loved 'em but now that I own one, I understand the addiction. I picked up a Dec '74 FJ40 about 2 years ago. It was a rolling parts bin - most stuff was there, but not running, no interior and a fresh (3 year old ) Macco paint job - not sure why.

I got the stock engine to run but with +/- 90 psi in each cyl and cracked block, Knew I needed a transplant. Found a local F2 from and 85 FJ60 and got her in. Runs strong, but still working through some carburetion issues.

Just put on some new BFG's since I promised myself I would not put new tires on a rig I could not drive more than 40 miles from home. Anyway slowly moving into the safe to take on the trail mode. Look forward to seeing y'all arround the copper state.

By the way I am looking for good place to take shake doen drives, not too far out of town. I live in So chandler, and go to SS Mts by Queen Valley, and Box canyon, anything closer that is legit?

I usually shake down at Butcher Jones or Sycamore, ~40 min from my door at Kyrene & 101.

Howdy

Howdy,
Ive been lurking here for a little while and just havent gotten around to posting an introduction, guess its finally time. Well that and Cook is holding my rig picture hostage for some reason. Pics will follow as soon as i can manage but im sure you can all just imagine a brown on brown 85 cruiser with the chrome wheels and bumpers till they are posted.

I picked up an 85 fj60 a few weeks back and look forward to wheeling with you all. Its currently stock but seems to be fine mechanicly with only 195k on it :). Plans are to lift it a bit and put some 33's on it.

I picked up Phils springs and ordered me some new bushings so im in the market for some pizza cutters and shocks. Let me know if you run across any deals. I am also looking for a cap to the stock power steering fluid resiviour, mine seems to have jumped ship and ran.
Eric

Welcome, sounds like youve already run across some of the CSC inhabitants. This is the fun part where you start modding your rig. It will never seem to end....see you at one of the upcoming meets!

Looking forward to seeing your 60's picture posted up. Take another picture, cook has probably chewed on the photo by now :hillbilly:

Howdy from Presskit

Howdy from Prescott! After a few years away, I'm back in the Land Cruiser world as of Sunday, when the money we got from the sale of our entirely practical RAV4 went into a 1985 FJ60. Didn't realize how much I missed the smell of gear oil.

Truck has 251K on the clock, but passed a compression test with flying colors. It's exceptionally clean (when I was active with the Capitol Land Cruiser Club in the DC area, we'd speak in hushed tones about these mythical "Arizona Trucks"), well maintained and largely unmolested, with just a mild spring lift and Aussie mirrors. Took a quick cell phone picture before I hit the road from Chandler back to Prescott; FJ60 on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

This is the second Cruiser I've owned, the first being a 1973 FJ40 that was a classic farmer's barn find -- 16,000 miles on the odometer, hadn't been registered since '75 but used regularly to herd dairy cattle & hunt deer, came with a pintle hook military trailer, and was mine for $800 and all the rust that twenty years of Pennsylvania winters could dish out. I learned a lot and made a lot of friends on the old Land Cruiser Mailing List, did a lot of trail riding in the mid-Atlantic and a couple of trips to New Hampshire for the Catamount Cruiser Challenge, and still miss that old truck.

One of my friends from those days greeted the news of this new ride with a smile -- "You can check out any time you want, but you can never leave. Welcome back to the cult."

It feels good to be back.

Cheers,
BRAD DeVRIES

I introduced myself on the main forum but figured i should tap into the local pool as well. Had my LC cherry popped in Iraq riding around on confiscated vehicles. Three years later and I now have my own. I just received my '96 FZJ80 about a week and a half ago. I'm loving it already. I took it out to Crown King and had a good time with it.

Welcome!
Were you ever involved with the Off Camber Crawlers? I was about a decade ago.
Wonder if we ever wheeled together?
