sorry, no bewbs in this post. my 75 is a hard top model, and i recently removed the top again, likely for the last time. its a hassle and i dont enjoy it. one thing i was thinking about is that you do lose your interior lamp with the top off. i was talking with cruisertrash about an idea i had, for a small bracket that would house a weatherproof LED lamp that mounts to the windshield frame up where the hardtop L bracket goes. the power wire for the oem lamp is already there. has anyone done something like this already? would there be any interest in something like this?

Would be nice to find a way to mount one in a 40 with top off as well👍

I've been thinking about some projects on this front, and I love the idea. I was thinking the access hole for the upper windshield washer hose might be a good mounting location. IMO the wiring would be straightforward, it's nailing the appearance that's the tricky part (ideally OEM parts could be co-opted).

I was also thinking of taking what I did here and making it into a kit:

Now that I'm caught up with a product line for fuel evaporative separators I think this might be a fun project.

Easy ways to go - brackets off the Sunvisor bolt holes and mirror mounting holes using LED lamps with wires routed along the windshield frame to the existing power wire, or run a second power wire on right side of windshield frame. Next would be a bracket off the roll bar with hose clamps or similar. Lots of easy ways to have high mount lighting in the truck, just pick your style of lamp with switch or buy OEM interior lamps for simplicity and have laser cut brackets made using the aforementioned locations on rollbar and windshield frame so they are out of the way.

one of these mounted on the rollbar puts out plenty of light. if you are slick you can drill the roll bar and mount it directly under and run the wires through the tubing.. we've done a few like that here. And then use an OEM fog-light switch to activate.
OEM dome light with an LED bulb on a tab welded to rollbar could be neat as well.

this is what i did in my 4runner using the oem roll bar, mounted a small baja designes lamp with red/white feature. the oem interior lamp is kind of large for what im thinking, which would be a small angled led lamp from the mounting holes for the windshield to door header bracket. good ideas!

Are you thinking something along the lines of the heater lamp or dash controls lamp?

Something like this:

I use rechargeable magnetic LED lights. Stick em where you want them and you can always use them as maintenance lights.

This is more fun with pictures. I previously had it wired to stub out on the windshield frame for the soft top but then rewired the vehicle for the LS. No wires needed now and they charge with a USB. Nice thing about the FJ40 is that a magnet will stick damn near anywhere. Just touch the center and they come on.
