Injector Cleaners?

Hello again fellow mudders.
I am looking to find a good diesel injector cleaner that i can throw in with my fuel. I am running an 1HDT engine and have used this generic injector cleaner stuff with no proven success. No improved fuel consumption, or cleaner exhaust.
I am wondering what you guys are running out there with good results.
Also i am in Canada, so anybody local would be great as we don't quite have the same resources as our fellow americans.

I add 5% to 20% canola and 0.1% acetone to ULSD from the Petro Can refinery in Edmonton, and run it in my 13B-T. Fuel consumption averages 10L/100km

At a recent govt. emissions test clinic the exhaust opacity was 1% from idle to 2000 RPM, and the unburned hydrocarbons at 9 ppm. [8% canola mix]

This is as clean as a new gasoline fueled car with computer and cat plus a bunch of emissions controls.

AFAIC the acetone and VO is doing it's job for clean combustion.

No, NO and probably. There are people out there who will try anything regardless of risk.

As M John says Biodiesel is a very good fuel system cleaner if the problem is related to your fuel system - carboned up injectors. Another popular treatment is Sea Foam. See this thread: https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=155156&highlight=clean+injectors.

I tried the Sea Foam after running about 8 tanks of B40 (around 640L). It didn't make any difference because the tips one the injectors were worn. Also, be forwarded, if runnning Bio or using Sea Foam from the tank forward, you should have a few extra fuel filter shandy. All the crud will come forward and clog your filter. I am not familiar with your IP; however, if it has a screen on the inlet, be ready to disconnect and clean that out as well.
 
I ear from old guys diesel gurus here in Panamá ( old school mechanics ) add ATF to the diesel tank 2 or 3 times per year ..
 
Actually, my first move when I bought the truck was the "Standyne" after a very smokey trip up into the interior. It reduced the smoke with 1/4 to 1/2 bottle in a 90 L tank. However, I am sure it only did that because it made the diesel burn better. No Standyne in Dino diesel and she smoked like before. I have also heard about the Tranny fluid, but just as a lubricant. But hey, it eats paint so it must clean out the fuel system too - in the right amount. Still the cheapest and most effective clean out with no risk to your fuel system is a few tanks of B40. If that doesn't work then you have to assume it is not just carboned up injectors.

How many kms do your injectors have on them? If you are around 100,000 kms then you can assume they are probably the culprit. If your injector tips are worn, no amount of cleaner will fix them. The only thing additives or Bio will do is help the fuel burn better which will give you less smoke and a bit more zoom.
 
just remove the injectors and have them serviced. All magic cleaners can't take away decades of carbon.



yes a good run down the freeway helps a diesel. Any long time at high temps is going to help de-soot a diesel. Or gasser. Italian tune up man!

Just nice not to over temp it. Or over rev. But use it hard for a long time.

3b's don't have this problem. Every highway run cleans em out.

My thoughts exactly. Toyota sell 2 types of fuel injection treatments. One is to keep a good system clean ,and the other is supposed to clean up dirty injector nozzles:rolleyes:

I dont have a lot of faith in fuel treatments but these might work if you have new injectors and want to keep them clean.
I bought a bottle of the Toyota fuel injection treatment to try it.

Old injectors have had the teflon coating worn away and once the spray pattern is damaged only new nozzles can bring it back.

yup each highway run in a 3b is an all out giver run just to keep up, so in natural it gets an italian tune up each time.. :D

my fuel consumption went bad after using Toyota injector cleaners. serviced the injector/pump, not the nozzles, just clean it, would that might be the cause.
 
I was told you cant really clean the nozzles, they are a replacement part. I would be taking it back to who ever serviced the pump.
 
Hotshots diesel extreme. They claim have strongest diesel injector cleaner on the market.
