For sure, the made in Japan tag is always a positive signso i did a bit of research and it seems like stone is either oem or quality aftermarket it looks like this new old stock gasket sat somewhere for 30 YEARS. At least it seems to be a made in japan one
Damn so cool to see this thing all torn apart, just wish it was under better circumstances .. shoot
Nooooooo, this blows....I'm trying to convince myself thats not a crack but I guess it has to be right? What's your plan now?
Yeah that's basically what happened I had to flip back around and just kind of Coast downhill fortunately it was pretty cold out so. But I have good news and bad news the diesel pre-chamber is only cracked and now normally they do crack a little I talk to an actual expert downtown a friend recommended diagnosis stuff he said if I can get my hands on a diesel pre-cup chamber he can put that in for me little pricey but getting the part is going to be difficult but the head itself isn't cracked so that's good at leastFor sure, the made in Japan tag is always a positive sign

>> Remind me, how did this all start? I want to avoid this situation.... You were just driving along and it overheated and you realized you were running with no coolant?
also the valve seals might have leaked due to over heating so ill see iff i can track down new valves. thats what the guy downtown told meYeah that's basically what happened I had to flip back around and just kind of Coast downhill fortunately it was pretty cold out so. Shoot, that sucks but way to go for not giving up on this old girl.....In my opinion its worth buying one of these for a few grand and then dump another few grand in maintenance / repairs to keep them alive...At 40+mpg and a just all around fun ride I hope mine stays kicking for a while longer...Yeah that's basically what happened I had to flip back around and just kind of Coast downhill fortunately it was pretty cold out so. yeah all the pre-cups have cracks but only one cylinder has really low compression so it might be the valves. i might try lapping the valves to see if that helpsShoot, that sucks but way to go for not giving up on this old girl.....In my opinion its worth buying one of these for a few grand and then dump another few grand in maintenance / repairs to keep them alive...At 40+mpg and a just all around fun ride I hope mine stays kicking for a while longer...
Hmm , going a little over my head now...Diesel pre chamber, hmm... Not sure what that is... I thought the fuel shoots into the intake manifold so shows how much I know.....
At least your in Cali and have resources all around you....In all of my searching the only times I would see these cars in junk yards was out on the west coast.....Do you know about car-part.com? You can search all junkyards in the country and see what pops up...Just search for the engine rather than the specific part....
Only one in the country below...Found a seized motor up at Gerrys but it may have suffered the same fate as yours

holy s*** ill denfinitly hit him up btw who is gerrys? he a user on the site?I just spoke with Gerrys....He also has a fully running 84 Camry TD... his old man just died and he wants to sell it, just throwing that out there to anyone reading...
You should hit him up tomorrow, the seized motor that I posted above is destined for the crusher..I'm trying to get a few parts off of it for my rig
its where the fuel and air mix just after the injection site right next to the glow plugs. its inside the headShoot, that sucks but way to go for not giving up on this old girl.....In my opinion its worth buying one of these for a few grand and then dump another few grand in maintenance / repairs to keep them alive...At 40+mpg and a just all around fun ride I hope mine stays kicking for a while longer...

Toyota IDI diesels are famous for it unfortunately.
well its a over 40 year old car they didnt make many of. i took it by a auto shop specilizing in head reapir and the head itsel isnt cracked just the pre cups and as i learnd its normal for them to crack a bit. im gonna track down some new valves, seat and bushings to fix it bc they are likly original and are worn outdon't bother trying to get new valves and a better valve seal on a cracked head. i only use them when there is no other option but so far i haven't had any issues with the china no name heads. just don't expect them to be right, send it to a trusted machine shop, they can try cutting on the valve seats and see how hard they are, some of the heads need the brand new seats replaced because they are too soft, others need to be milled because of the wrong surface Finnish or because they must have been machined hot and now that its cool they show not being flat on a straight edge. Some of the heads pass every test and are fine. The NZ heads I'm sure come from china too but maybe they have a more trusted source.
i need the 1ct not the 2ct engine headToyota IDI diesels are famous for it unfortunately.
Here's a solution. Not a cheap one: Toyota 2C/3C/3CT Complete Cylinder Head Kit - https://www.cylinderheads.co.nz/Cylinder-Head-Kits/198-Toyota-Carina-Corona-Delta-Liteace-Townace-corolla-Sprinter-caldina-Carina-camry-estima-lucida-ipsum-gaia-2C-3C-3CT-Complete-Cylinder-Head-Kit-gasket-vrs-set-bead-bolts/toyota
Well the guy said he could do it I just have to find the parts for him to do itNot unlikely that a 2CT head would fit on a 1CT. Cracked pre-cups are very common on Toyota IDI diesels, especially the turbocharged ones. I would take the head to a specialist shop and get it magnafluxed to check for cracks, resurfaced and the valvetrain rebuilt.
In you picture it looks like a big crack in the head, no worry about the pre chamber cracks. did somebody just look at it or did it pass a pressure test and magnaflux test?well its a over 40 year old car they didnt make many of. i took it by a auto shop specilizing in head reapir and the head itsel isnt cracked just the pre cups and as i learnd its normal for them to crack a bit. im gonna track down some new valves, seat and bushings to fix it bc they are likly original and are worn out
That's a scratch not a crack I not so gently dragged it out of the engine bayIn you picture it looks like a big crack in the head, no worry about the pre chamber cracks. did somebody just look at it or did it pass a pressure test and magnaflux test?
