I'm swapping an '86 22RTE into my '76 Celica with a 20R.

The Celica ignition switch harness is the old 4-wire type with ST, IG, ACC, and AM wires. The 22RTE harness has seven wires: ST1, IG1, IG2, ACC, AM1, AM2, ST2 (ST2 is not used, though). I'm planning to use a bunch of SPST relays to isolate the Celica harness from the 22RTE harness.

Basically, I'm just looking for a thumbs-up on this plan. It's going to be messy, but it's the only way I know to make it work. Has anyone done this kind of swap before? Can I eliminate any of those relays?

As far as the ignition goes there's only 4 kinds of power.... Constant power, power in "Acc." power in "on" and power in "start" Seems like you just need to figure out what of the 22rte needs power when.... You shouldn't have to use a bunch of relays...

I'm sure you can eliminate the relays.

The 22R-E harness in my '91 had 6 wires, the 2LT-E only used 4. The difference was that the J-spec vehicle didn't have a seat belt sensor. The "big 4" have been the same on every harness I looked at. Time to figure out what the differences are between the two.
