So i've had a couple threads crying about my weird electrical issues after a stupid driving decision on my part. We traced back to the ignition coil today and I think it may be the problem. My rig will turn over, but not start.

1. Both wires coming out the coil seemed to have current with the key on.
2. No spark off the wire going to the distributor.
3. Confirmed fuel pump relay is working properly.
4. There was a tie in to the wire that goes to the ignition coil, conceivably water could have gotten there and shorted it out.

Is it common for the ignition coil to go bad? I"m going to order another one and replace it. Is the replacement procedure difficult?

I appreciate the guys who have weighed in here and there on my issues. I was able to find the wiring diagram before here and that helped my friend diagnose the issues and trace down the problems.

For a while I had no hope, but I have a little hope again. Wish me luck.

I'm assuming you have the newer 1FZ with the coil packs.
It's not normal for them to go bad. 300,000+KM on my original ones and haven't heard of any others going bad.

EDIT: I just noticed you have a distributor so disregard everything I just said.
