Hey, I have a friend with a 1994 toyota standard cab truck, with 100,000 on it.(stock) He asked me what I would do to upgrade the ride-(little less roll, overall better street charateristics). I told him to replace all the shocks first and see how that mods the ride. Any other suggestions? I don't know much about the IFS stuff. thx

Manual hubs
Bilstein shocks
Sway-Away torsion bars
Poly bushings on the anti-swaybar links
OME rear springs

take off sway bar
bilstiens
OME torsions (not as stiff as the sway's, but pleanty stiff)
check ball joints, idler arm

He needs to def. start on new shocks and not Crapos aka Ranchos. They suck at proper recoil dampening. Infact I've heard that Summit has the Eldlebrock ISA shocks for $20 each. I run them on my 80 and LOVE them, but for whatever reason cost me $100 more than the truck ones.

Next would be to put some poly bushings in. Doing the upper arms will cuase squeak regardless of the amount of silicon. The lower arms don't squeak so he may want to start with those. Do the same for the rear springs, there isn't much to do back there, even new springs don't help on body roll.

I would also say, he could jump to 25mm t-bars and pull the sway bar. I would not pull the sway bar without stiffer t-bars. OME is also the BEST t-bars to use but they cost more than say like sway away.

Thank you for all your posts. I'll pass the info along.

NO NO NO! You are pissing in the wind unless your purpose is high speed.
huh? works fine for me...running 33's no rub....rockcrawling and trail

Build a beffy anti sway bar with custom poly bushings and or aftermarket tortion bars. New shocks would also be a big help bilstien or walker evans would be a good way to go.

How will this help with on-street manners? He asked for "less body roll", yet you want him to remove the one part that helps reduce this the most?? I don't get it.

mine handles better with it off go figure

My sway bar was taken off and broken by the po and it has TONS of body roll. Of course this may be that the torsion bars are cranked and the shocks are blown....

Stock t-bars need sway bars. Jumping up to 25mm t-bars allow for the removal of the sway bars. You can get away with this because the t bars load on the upper arms and larger ones like 25mm is around a 60% increase in spring rate, unlike a coil-over that works on the lower arms.

I ran my truck with 25mm t-bars and poly bushings without the sway bar and the truck was leaps and bounds better. This wasn't just a before and after compair but also having 2 other mid 80's truck I could and did a direct compair.

Regardless of sway bars, t-bars, a good set of shocks can make a huge difference.
