Time to pull the valve cover and see what the rocker arms are doing and what valve clearances look like.

I'd be looking at trailer rental or a safe parking space until late spring. This doesn't sound like a side of the road repair. Most storage places will not let you work on the rig. Someone recommended a good shop - I would visit/call them.

Firing order is 1,5,3,6,2,4 so 5 builds compression between 1 and 3, which have compression.
either the poor engine dropped / burned exhaust valves on 4-6 or the cam or crank broke between 3 & 4, or maybe (!) the PO didn’t lock the valve adjustment in and 4,5,6 let loose.

Pulling the valve cover might show the second or third, but not the first.

Does the rotor spin? (Remove the cap, take a look.)
The distributor is driven by a gear on the camshaft between 3&4.

Would be helpful to have a bore scope

Imo should look into the shop our Illustrious leader @woody recommended they would most likely have one and determine what you’d need to do

Kinda hard to do anything else without your own place and tools to diagnose

I was thinking broken crank too. Idk? What kind of noises does it make?

As for the knife thing, that's fn nuts.

Well I think I need to pull the head and look quite a bit deeper. That being said I’m headed back to CO to get truck and trailer and come back to St. George to load up the Troopy.
I’ll have to open it up at home an see what the rig is telling me she wants.
A. Machined head tossed back on
B. Rebuild the existing 2F
C. Replace with a rebuilt 2F
D. Replaced with used 2F.
E. More expensive option HERE

Let me know your thoughts.

vehicle was towed the day it broke down to a family members so it’s parked on a safe flat surface. Currently headed home in a borrowed rig to get a truck and trailer from my Dads place. (Nice to have parents that live close and have stuff) then back tomorrow to retrieve the troopy and get her home in the garage to pull the head. If anyone in the area has a vehicle with a wench and would be willing to help me load it Tuesday afternoon evening please DM me I’ll bring straps and do my best with what I have but having a capable person and vehicle will make this go a lot smoother. (Family I’m parked at won’t be able to assist in this effort)

So off to Colorado after all just not under its own power.
