So I'm curious. I've sank money into many a off-road vehicle. And often times the mod I like the best is some cheap item. So the question.. if you only had $100 to spend on your FJ, what would you buy?
I would probably go with differential breather kit.
It's alittle more than 100.00 but sliders if you wheel should be one of the first things. Before lift or tires or cool lights protect the vehicle. Sliders can save money if installed before an outing. Fixing sheet metal is not cheap.
I'm going to answer my own question on this one. The rear LCA skids shown in post #9 are made by RockTek, but as far as I can tell from my web searches are not available any more. But RCI Metalworks makes something similar that I found here: http://www.purefjcruiser.com/skid-p..._781_783/1014-fj-lower-link-skids-p-5857.html. Anyone have experience with the RCI ones? They look like this:
Total Chaos also makes one and it looks like this:
Those RCI ones look interesting. I would question their strength if you come down at a hard angle on them...without sides I think they would still crush the OEM tissue paper mounts..
Upon researching the rear LCA skids further, I see that Toyota updated the design of the factory chassis mounts when they switched from the Prado 120 to the Prado 150 chassis in 2010. (Although one post I read claimed that later model FJC’s used a hybrid chassis with some upgraded 150-series bits added underneath and not the complete Prado 150 frame.) Here’s what the 2007-2009 rear LCA mounts look like:
And here’s what the 2010-2014 mounts look like (this photo also shows the Total Chaos skid installed, but you can clearly see what’s factory and what’s aftermarket):
As you can see the later models had a more gradually sloped connection to the frame. So just be aware when you buy to get the correct skid for your model year.

Thanks for the link to the Rocktek's. They look like a good choice as far as smaller arrival angle goes and the fact that they have bolts through the frame. But at least on my 2014 it will take some grinding on the bottom of the frame for them sit flush. There is a junction in the frame near that spot and a lot of factory welds sticking up proud of the frame. Did you run into any problems when you installed yours onto your 2007?
