I voted for the early dash cap...

I also think we should start small, easy, inexpensive, etc. in order to test the process. This would be a great addition to available parts. I realize the later dash can be modified to fit, but we know the manufacturer, why don't we see how difficult it would be for them to repro the older style cap? Anyhoo, just throwing it out there.

Looks like the grommet thingy is doing well in the poll also. Let's be sure to check with Charles to see what he has...this may be a good part to start with as well. Cheap 'n easy, I hope.

anyone have a pic of these firewall grommets? trying to figure out where/what they do?

Paul, here's the grommets that folks are talking about. There is also a wire harness on the drivers side.

Folks, these are AVAILABLE NOW!! Let's not make these but rather something "unobtainium"!

Thanks Cruiser....I wondered what the grommets were- dave

I vote for the fixed window weatherstripping, the other stuff I can either fab myself or am not opposed to doing something non-OEM, but the fixed window is a necessity for everyone, restorers and fixer-uppers alike. That's my vote, but I will support whatever the majority wants because it will be something that is very relevant to me as well.

Mine is already disassembled, Paul. If you want the early style dash cap, I'll volunteer mine to go for a ride. I'll need an address and get that out this weekend, actually. Mine is a March 1970.

Before we do that we need to make sure that they will actually consider making these. I don't want for you to loose the dash and have nothing to show for it. I posted the name and address as well as the phone number of the guys making the later dash cap earlier.

Ok, who is going to move on that? As I said, I am happy to volunteer my dash since it is already removed and sitting on a shelf collecting dust. If you want me to ask, I'd be happy to do so.

Phone number address and website is in post #13. I nominate you as the one in charge of early dash caps. Anyone second that?

I won't be needing one as my truck is a '76 and their current dash cap works great on my truck.

I'll second the motion, that Brian, is the one to make contact with the company and if needed to send his in for a prototype.

Ok, guess I'll get that looked in to. Last two weeks of classes then finals are coming up, so I'll move on it when I can.

repro complete early dash

throwing my vote in for a replacement early dash as opposed to just a cap....sounds like we may not be off to a very good start on this one since I read that the company that makes the later style has refused to make the early one......perhaps we can find another company to produce a replacement early dash for the 55??

I voted early dash pad cover as well.

Another part needed is early turn signals on the fenders.....specifically the plastic pedestal the light sits on.....I think that's the only way the differ from FJ40's. Mines a 1972, but I'm sure the smaller, earlier style is needed as well.

Yours IS the earlier style if it's period correct for the '72. They changed in '75 or '76.

Ahh.... I thought there were 3 styles. Early-Early(69ish?) then Early through 1975, then the late style afterwards.

There are, but the early '69 ones are totally different than the later ones, not to mention that they are as rare as "hens teeth". You could probably make a base that would be common for both the pre and post '75 styles but there is NO WAY it would be common to the '69 style.

for this style? if so, i had a couple sets made up from the same company that made the cargo grills for me. i could check how much for a few sets if more than one person is interested. eventually, i'll like to get the later round bases made too.
