This site was coming up a lot while researching possible matches for the trans, so figured I'd Xpost here. Any help very much appreciated!

This came off off my '85 4Runner today to replace the pilot and throwout bearings. There was also an issue with being hard to get into gear which appears to be because of the adapter setup. Wasn't sure how that worked before digging in, so hopefully won't be an issue anymore. The trans is a cast iron case and aluminum top.

The vehicle was heavily modified by the PO, who seemed to do everything by the book, but I can't figure out what the transmission is. Called Marks 4WD months ago and gave them the part #s for both adapters but both were so old that they couldn't track it. Very helpful guys though - they did say if it was in a Toyota and a cast iron case that it was probably a Dyna transmission, but R452 were side shift, and it doesn't look like any H55 I've found a pic of yet.

Any ideas what the bolt I took out top right of PTO cover does? PTO option only?

Curious, does anyone know the function of this rod with the notch cut in it? Something to do with PTO engagement maybe? My thumb is through the PTO cover, pic is from the top of case.

This was the top adapter. Unsure how this brass shifter piece is going to hold up for years of abuse, we'll see.

Planning on reusing the Centerforce clutch. Looks alright, no?

Fingers are not so great but hopefully with a new TO bearing it'll work.

Synchros look good anyway.

We have a knowledgeable group here. I hope somebody can help you out ... cuz I haven't a f'n clue what you have there.

Looks kind of like a toyota H42 4 speed manual out of a 'Cruiser w/ B diesel. But I could be wrong.

This image implies that its a Daihatsu transmission.

Awesome lead, thanks! I had no idea that was a Daihatsu emblem.

http://japan-parts.eu/toyota/gr/1993/# has been somewhat helpful in narrowing things down, but still haven't been able to find a matching trans. Because of the PTO port it seems like it may be an m150-m153 or m550, which all have a reputation for toughness. It is definitely old and obscure in any case. Hope it never breaks because seems like it would just have to be swapped out rather than rebuilt.

Any thoughts on whether the 5 4 93 stamped into the case could represent the date of manufacture?

Always heard good things about Marks, but I have to say it would make me feel kinda bad if I sold something and after a few years couldn't trace what it was for.

I have a buddy that is a big Daihatsu guy and I will ask him if he can shed any light on it.

Very much appreciated!!

To be fair to Marks I "think" this conversion was done 20 or so years ago (actually done by the original owner before the PO), and they don't use the same alpha numeric indicator codes anymore. But yeah...

My Daihatsu buddy said he thinks it is a 5spd from a Feroza or more likely a fourtrak. He thinks they were only available overseas in places like the UK and Australia which would help explain the old Marks adapters. Maybe if you called them with that info they could track it down for you.

I think you can get parts for them, but will likely have to come from overseas.

Hope that helps

Thanks for looking into it, I just found the twin!!! It is from a Dyna or Delta! Still don't know what the actual model is, but making progress. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/bund...-dg-diesel-engine-and-transmission/1046341149

I bought the R451 manual earlier and last night spent $13.99 on a Hino manual with a bunch of these trans in it. For posterity's sake, here are the collected images, unavailable elsewhere.
