Hey Guys,

I need some ideas for replacements for the stock hood bumps stops. I need something that is a little longer and adjustable. I hate having a shaking hood, but I had to put a 2F hood on my piggy to clear the engine, and the hood I bought for SOR wasn't perfect. I am not sure what to even search for on the internet, "hood bumpstops" isn't really coming up with anything.

Any ideas?

Ryan

I have new stock ones on it now, but they aren't adjustable and I need about 3/8" more. The hood I have is a 2F hood mounted on a '71 cruiser, and it had been "massaged" in a previous life. SOR sold it as a perfectly good hood, but I had to take a big hammer to the driver side front corner. My 55 is no show truck so there is a little more gap there. I know I have seen some rubber bumps on a threaded rod that you can adjust up and down, but I am not sure where to get them, or even what sizes they come in.

Ryan.

Any reason not to use some new stock ones?

I can't recall where I bought my set(SOR??) but they work fine.

Use the old ones and add some of that sticky rubber padding. You know that stuff you use to pad chairs and heavy things. metal-padding-bumper-hood. Looks super clean and costs nothing. You cut it to fit. It adds the necesary thickness.

I tell you what you send that rig of yours over and I'll hold onto it for awhile and fix that for you.

I asked a long time ago and have since lost the info, but what kind of turn signals have you used on that rig?

They are 70's series Land Cruiser turn signals. I bought them from G&S Cruisers in Canada. They do a lot of work on the 70's series mine trucks. You can also get some repo's from SOR.

The pads that I got were black and they had adhesive on one side.

Are all those turn signals the same size? I had a pair of what looked like the same ones that you have and they did not seem to fit. Are the ones that you have smaller or are they not flush all the way around?

They are all the same size.

I forgot, I had to modify them. But it was very simple!

Just heat up the lower plastic with a heat gun get it nice and hot and then press the bottom down on the fender to give it the right radius. It works really well and looks like it was made for the 55.

You can see in this pic how the bottom of the light is curved as opposed to straight. SORRY ABOUT THE HUGE SIZE!

you can shiim the stock bumpers up. as for the bumpers on screws, 80 series and iirc 60 series use that style.

btw, i thought your rig looked just fine from the brief time i saw it at christos

Thanks!

I think that it looks pretty good, I just don't like the hood shaking. It isn't a big deal at all just a little OCD. Haha.

Thanks LC,

I am going to try a couple from McMaster. The pig is hardly prestine. I wish more people could see it. Just because I don't want people to think it is some fancy restored piggy. Hell the paint was spray paint! :-)

My hood & fender have the same seperation as yours'. I've seen rubber cushions at H/D, Lowes I'll prolly use, in the hdwe. section. If those aren't good enough for your pristine :pig:, try McMaster-Carr.
