Anybody that has done extensive mods to these vehicles and tried to get OEM parts knows that the dealers often need a VIN to find the correct parts, and that can be challenging. I know my truck is an odd collection of parts now from several years, I'm having a hard time keeping track. And now that I'm in the middle of this restoration, I'm starting to hunt for parts that can be tough to track down, especially when I'm migrating more stuff from other trucks.
What if we had a database or even just a list of VINs with the description of each truck, that way if someone needed a truck from that model/trim package, they would have a VIN to source from? Notes could include model, color (ext & int), engine, trans, trim, power or manual windows/locks/mirrors, etc.
I can't see any risk in posting VINs, people do it all the time when listing vehicles on eBay and other places.
What do you think?
