I think I got scammed... (3 Viewers)

Yesterday I had few minutes so made some Google maps suggestions. One of which to show the business as being permanently closed. It was changed back this morning. I just changed it again. I did notice that my label "Affordable Cars is a SCAM Website" was not removed.

I also did a Whois lookup and sent the hosting service an abuse alert. It will be whack-a-mole as they will move elsewhere.

I also just talked to a business right by it and he sent me some current pictures - my goal is to have google update the business as there is a new car dealer there RPMs. I gave them a call alerted that business and noted that google maps should be updated to their business.

Appreciate everyone chiming in.

Quick update... I called the beneficiary's bank this morning to report scamming activity. They were able to put in a complaint. About 4 hours later, I got an angry call/tirade from the dealer saying that I got his $1M account locked and he has no means to pay for his cars. He was furious with profane language and made threats. So either my complaint worked and/or other people also reported him. The recipient bank contacted my bank account asking for a harmless hold letter. Considering that and how the account got locked (I only know because he called me), fingers crossed to recouping some money.

I never confronted the dealer about him being a scammer. I've been playing dumb. Last night, I called my lender to cancel the loan. This morning, the dealer called me all angry asking why I cancelled the loan. He also never sent a picture of the car on the delivery vehicle like I requested. He must have called my lender inquiring about the status so he can know when to expect that check? At this point, he said the deal is off and he'd be returning my down payment (to my surprise). He made a comment about how he paid out of his pocket to pay for the car registration so he needs to get the refund from the DMV before he makes the refund. He told me he'd be at the DMV at 1PM. I called him around 1:30PM and he says he's at an auction and it's central time where he's at so I was calling early. Danville, IN is eastern time zone.. weird. Anyhow, an hour later, he called me with his tirade and blocked my number. I noticed the website was taken down sometime this afternoon.
Any more updates?

There's a chance he returns the missed call.
He just tried to call me back. I’ll call and ask about the Land Cruiser and ask if I can swing by and see it.

I called him back and got vm again. I don’t want to screw op’s chances of getting his money back.

Op’ did you get a vin for the vhicle? Pull the car fax? Was it the bring a trailer truck vin? Trying to learn so I don’t get scammed in the future.

Poor Chad…ever since not making team at Penn State, he apparently has gone into scam car sales….
To clarify that is the Penn State Campus at Craiova

FWIW It took about a week of daily changes but google maps is now only showing RPMs and not the scammer. I also noticed that the scammer website seems to be down/gone. I reported the scammer website to the hosting company but they were a bit of a PITA. However, at the same time I cc'd CarsAndBids (which is where the scam listing came from) which hopefully made the difference.

Hopefully the OP will have some good news to report. At the same time it is worthwhile for business and people to do a search on themselves from time to time. One will never know what they might found.

Thanks for the kind words. I will give a shout out to Four Piston Racing in Danville. Their shop is right by the new dealer. I called the owner and he graciously took pictures of the new dealer which gave proof positive the scammer was not at that location.

That's great that you followed through. I saw that shop on Google maps and thought that they would probably help out, but I lost motivation once the OP seemed to ghost.

Still waiting for the bank to go through their processes. I'm not counting on getting it back but still hoping.

Guess what.. this guy is still at it. Now under Burgett Auto Sales. I called and it was the same guy.. introduced himself as Chad and had the same European accent. I hung up and then he called me back with a voiceover introducing himself as Burgett auto sales. How do ads like this make it onto carfax?

Looks like the pictures were stolen from this BaT 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser URJ200 Heritage Edition - https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2021-toyota-land-cruiser-heritage-30/

What do we need to do to take this guy down?
