Thanks mot. Awesome write up and models :D
This 200 reminds me of what Mercedes did with its 1991 S-Class or W140: a panzer-shaped, oversized, bloated vehicle that was widely decried even before Diana died in one of them:doh:.
The 1999 W220 was in that regard a full reverse and did better in sales. But I think we all understand that the mothership doesn't care at all about how the third owner of a 200 will consider and use it in 2020.
Hell, SUVs might even be illegal then.

I was thinking yesterday that Toyota wanted to compete with other manufacturers' large SUV's and the new 200 was their answer (more upscale than the Sequoia, I guess).

They have written us off effectively by doing this, but they probably thought that they would satisfy the die-hard off road enthusiasts by introducing the FJC... And we are satisfied, aren't we? ;)

I'd love for you to drive my W140 600SEL. That was the last old school MB. Back when Form follows function really meant something. My 600 feels as solid as A bank vault . Compare a 1993 LS400 to it and the LS will feel like the cheap, tin can it is. My 1993 actually feels more substantial than my 2006 CL. Lady DI DIDN'T DIE BECAUSE OF THE CAR SHE WAS IN. SHE DIED BECAUSE SHE WASN'T WEARING A F:censor:G SEAT BELT !! YOU ARE A RUBE !!:flipoff2:

The more I read about Tundra this and that, the Sequoia is Tundra this and that, I am beginnig to wonder. I do not want a Sequoia with added KDSS and 4-Lo crawl and call it a LC.

I guess the wind in my sails is dwindling the past few days. Only seeing the vehicle will tell. If it is not a unique and VERY HD vehicle like the 80 and 100 I will pass. That might be a good thing for my wallet based on what my 2001 cost me to build. I do not want a Tundra with a LC body on it. I will buy an '07 ASAP if that is the case!

I think Sewell Lexus in Dallas/Ft Worth still has a few '07's. I know, because I am thinking the same thing you are.

Thanks for the editorial on your decision making process!:flipoff2:

Mot--

Thank you very much for the detailed pictures of what you guys are getting in JDM land...

;)

That said, I really do think that outside of importing LC's from Oz/NZ/or SA and the Middle East, the Land Cruiser as we know it has pretty much become a "plug and play" toy.

Too bad in my book and many others' books as well.

The "market" rules the roost as the saying goes. Money is the most important factor and this LC contributes to that.

So be it. I will begin hoarding parts and vehicles.

In fact I didn't know what it was but I took offense nevertheless.

Thanks Mot, and NO thanks Toyota. Looks like a bloated/overweight 2008 Highlander.

I agree; bloated Bland Cruiser;

however; Toyota corporate is in the business of sellling vehicles,
not keeping individuals happy; so they have to make some stuff
plain vanilla to appeal to the masses.

(I think the FJ Cruiser was their "gift" to the off-road crowd,
I personally love the looks of an FJ, but hate the ergonomics,
high belt-line, inabiility to see what is around you, etc, etc)

Also, keep in mind, the largest market for these seems to be the
NGO's(non-governmental organizations), governments, the UN,
Security companies ie: in Iraq, etc.
In these situations, they need a large vehicle that can carry a lot of people, etc.

Thanks for the pics Mot...interesting!

thanks Mot. Great pics!

Dude, you sure are worried about leg room eh...? :)

and tell me again, why they don't label all the controls in Japanese? Is that just a fad by request or have the imperialist US colonialist pigs done it again and subverted yet another culture...:D?

Nice review MOT, Thanks for the pics too.. although I can't find your posts about the 78/79 in the 70 section...:frown:

And it was even longer than it was bigger.

Mot ;)

.

.

I personally don't think 2 & 3/8 inches longer and 1 & 1/4 inches wider isn't that much bigger by my thoughts. It is 3/8 inches lower, has the same wheelbase, rear track is 1 inch wider, front track is 5/8 inch wider.

Nice pics and write up though!

I'm only worried about leg room because most of you guys seem to be.:flipoff2:

And as for all the English...
You know how we think that English is cool and that almost everything looks and sounds better than Japanese, except maybe トヨタ.:D

You know Wes, the only place I've seen the new 70 series was at the old Araco/Toyota Body factory earlier this year. I'm wondering if they're officially available here.

I know, I know, I'm sure you're thiking, that I should know!

You know, the new 200 might not look that much longer and wider on paper, but certainly did look longer and taller than the 2" and 3/8 inches that the catalogue indicates.

Mot;)

Where was the dealership? My dealer here in Las Vegas told me yesterday that he didn't expect to see a 2008 Land Cruiser until December! Thanks.

George,

My neighborhood Toyota has the black one pictured and they told me that it would become a test drive vehicle for the same dealership or another one in the area next week.

I'm in Japan:)hillbilly:), but I thought someone (from the US) in this thread said that his dealer had one in as well.

Good luck!

Mot :)
