I am having issues with getting a damn 22r. I never thought I would have a problem getting a good used engine around here. I have only found a couple of VERY over priced engines with over 150k. They want more than what I can get a shortblock for. Its very frustrating. If any of you yahoos have a 22r around N.E. Utah you should bring it to me ;)

1st off, what condition is yer motor in?

and second I have a secret as far as buying parts. Most people can't do this as you need a farm to put the rest on, but I buy in bulk :flipoff2: I look for things like wrecked vehicles that are at least running...

blah blah blah you get the point....

Let's say a POS it too much. If the price is too high ask the seller why. If he refers you to a local ad (and he will) of a part, not a whole, just ask him who's labor is gonna get it out. If he says, "well, uh, gee, I tot" then you say "that's right, it ain't gonna get it's self out" "and either yours, of my labor needs to be taken into account".

I love listening to parters talk, "its worth $10,000 dollars! :hillbilly:". Yeah right, you sell the stuff people want then sit on the rest for a couple of years...it'll come around you why you need to sell it to me for $500. But it ain't worth skrap after the stuff is gone I want if fer...

well my engine has a thrown rod. I was told it didn't but once I started pulling it out I got curious and started checking what pistons were moving up and down. There isn't a hole in the block, but I am pretty sure the crank is toast and the block could be cracked. Who knows on the head since I haven't checked it. At this point I feel I am better off getting a complete engine instead of rebuilding the one in it.

There isn't a hole in the block,

Then you don't have a throwed rod ;), and could use a crank kit....

Exactly what does it mean to "throw a rod" and does that mean my car is totaled? - Yahoo! Answers

IF that helps...problem there is, its usually more economical at that point to get a mystery motor....

crank kit, some DIY mental boxing (psych yerself up), a cylinder hone and rebuild kit could have you going :D

Yew spun a bearing, a "throwed rod" is when lack of lubrication causes a rod bearing to seize onto the crank, and during a rotation it breaks the rod free from the piston and depending on its angle either punches a hole in the block or chews up everything in its way b/c its no longer free to move on the crank journal.

You CAN throw a rod without going through the block. The piston and whatever is left of the rod slid down the cylinder so the crank hits it and won't do a full rotation. Since the crank slams the rod everytime someone would try to turn it over, I'm sure there is damage to the cylinder as well as the block. IMO I don't feel that this block is worth throwing a ton of money into by have one cylinder re-sleeved as well as whatever head work would need to be done since the engine didn't have coolant in it and I know it got hot.

yew rite, but you'll need to tear it down to be sure. I wouldn't assume a bad cylinder wall till I saw it.

as far as I know you only need what is above the rings to be good anyway...and I can't recall if that's a ways away from what the crank/ rod can reach to damage.

have you tore it down yet?

(sorry I feel so redneck tonight)

I've had it a year, but I'm only in the US during the summer so it doesn't get driven very much. This 4Runner was my wife's first work vehicle so we won't ever sell it. It will get driven more (but probably just for hunting) when we move back to the US.

Good luck with your search.

got a vortec!

I got a 5.3 you can drop in that bad boy!

Well I found me an engine. Actually its two 22rs that one is really low miles and the other has a rebuilt head. The problem is that I have to take both engines, transmission, tcase, and rear end to be able to get anything. I can already see the look on my wife's face when I come home with a truck load of parts :)

I've seen her photo and maybe know the type....maybe.

Tell her how much you paid for the one lower end and tell her the guy threw everything else in because he wanted to get rid of it and was tired of trying to sell it.

It's like a sale and women love a sale!

exactly

im always coming up with excuses on how come i paid so much for all these parts or tools. so somtimes i have to tell her it was this much, but i paid this much and he threw this in free!
whats crazy is the way she sees it, if a shirt at the store was 49.99 and now is 21.99, its okay to buy.
