The wife said how come you haven't done anything with your Toyota buddies in a while? I said no one wants to go out doors (wheeling) in Orlando florida 95 degree heat. she says you should plan a trip where its cooler like GA mountains for a long weekend or something... I said ummm OK!!! someone there in Ga help me out. wheres a good place to go. with fun mild to moderate trails with great senery. im thinking sometime in sept. any help would be appreciated. I'm bring my mostly stock 1978 fj40 w 2.5 in lift and 33in alt tires. thanks

Not sure how far North you want to go, but The Upstate Cruisers are having a ride at Golden Mtn Park in Sparta TN the weekend of August 16-18. I think the ACC crew is gonna help Sponsor the event. Maybe to early in the year for you, but should be a good time.

Very cool of her to say and support you!!

Not much in N Ga as far as wheeling, your only options are Beasley in Blairsville or Durhamtown ORV out near Athens. If you're interested in FS roads there are miles to pick from anywhere from Clayton to Chattanooga. Now as jynx said, if you want to go a little further north there's Windrock and Golden Mountain Park, further west gets you Choccolocco, Great American Park and Morris Mountain in Alabama, any of which will be great to visit in September but August is gonna be misery in a 40.

yeh im open to going a lil further. anyone planning a run in those areas mentioned above? ideal situation is I us Florida folk connecting with someone that knows the area and going with. Mid August is not going to workout but late August through Sept is open. thanks for all the help so far.

Yes, very cool of her! I can help point you to some interesting FS roads (Buick roads, as Ted calls them) in central and east north GA. Some are fairly rough, backwoods, easy stream crossings, lead to scenery and/or hiking trails (including the AT), and cross ridges/areas, but they definitely are not "offroad crawling trails" and won't seriously challenge a 40.

This guy has some treks: www.georgiaoverland.com

In late Sept or throughout October I might could join you.

... stock fj40 no rock sliders or skid plate ...

hehe - understand. I'm in what would be a stock 60 except for 26 years and 180k on the stock springs and shocks. PM your email and I'll link you to some videos that show some of the roads I can point you to, you can see if that's what you're looking for.

maybe ill tag along as well? I havent had a chance to ride any FS roads yet.

thanks for the video rjs78 the trails seem a lot like what we have her in central fl super tame from what I was able to see from the video. Is there something a notch up/ terrain that ill need to put it I 4wd a little while. ?

Being non-maintained and rutted are about as bad as the FS roads will get. Side trails off of them will be even more so, with overhanging branches to crash through. But for steep inclines and such, the ORV parks will be necessary.

I have really been interested in following some of those Georgia overland routes myself. I don't have a lot of time left in Georgia to do it so if I am going to do it has to be soon.

A more quantitive definition of "dick around up there..." :): ride FS 42 south from Doublehead Gap Road intersection, check out several side FS roads near there, continue south past Springer, checking out side roads, maybe head over toward Merrill, or whatever seems interesting.
