I guess I’ve been slacking on the updates. I picked up the lift kit from Georg last week and put it on. I should have bought new shocks and U bolts from him but didn’t for reasons that didn’t work out. I also picked up some new MT MTZ tires and really like how they look. It drove out of the shop for the first time yesterday. It hasn’t been registered since 79 and hasn’t been driven since the PO bought it in ?84?. Heres the pics before I lose everyone with my incoherent rambling…haha.

Thank you, I’m biased but they’re awesome!
Dustin, what great pics. Makes me miss my long bed. I'll be putting those springs on the LV......perfect height. Looks awesome. Great job.
Thank you! I agonized over whether to lift it or not, and over which tires to use, but I’m thrilled with how it turned out.

I love watching your art pop up, thank you!

Small update for today as I cross stuff off the list to get this truck on the road. I have searched without luck for a 50mm spindle nut socket that I like. I picked up one of the trail gear ones and found out that it is too shallow. I ended up grinding the welds and removing the flush mounted end plate then rewelding it on top of the socket. Now it is deep enough to reach all the way on the inner nut.

I’m a little behind but have been working away on the pickup. I need a name but I figure he will name himself when it’s time.

I took the carb apart and cleaned it all out which helped a lot. I also gave it a good time up with oem plugs, wires, cap and rotor then adjusted the valves and replaced the valve cover gaskets. It was running pretty good so I decided to take it down to the end of the road, which is downhill for a couple miles. It ran fine on the way down but wasn’t pumping enough fuel to make it back up so my first test drive wasn’t a huge success. I owe xtremeVA a thanks for recommending that I order a fuel pump rebuild kit when I ordered the carb kit. I cleaned it up in the ultrasonic cleaner and threw the kit in and it’s working great now.

Saturday was the day so I decided to sneak it down the road to my buddies house so I could pick up my rivnut tool. It ran great and drives really nice. The 2-3 shift fork is still tight but is getting better. I thought I might have a coolant leak but then realized it was just coming from the overflow hose because I filled it too full and there isn’t a reservoir. It drove really nice and didn’t give me any problems. I still have a checklist before it’s really ready for a lot of use but this was a great motivator. I figured I would use hand signals if I needed to because there still aren’t any brake lights but I only saw 1 vehicle going the other way during the 25 minute drive. I have some more stuff to post but need to go eat dinner.

I did find the brass tag. It’s in an unusual location under one of the emblem nuts on the right apron. It’s T-67 which should be expected. I couldn’t find any indication that it wasn’t put there originally or that the vin tag had ever been off. Who knows. The other weird thing is that 2 of the emblem nuts are on backwards.

Dustin, every time you post pics it makes me miss my longbed everyday. Looking good. Nice find on the vin plate and tag.

Thanks Pete! One step closer to driving it and meeting up with some of the locals!

I saw a link to this one posted in the FJ45 classified section after I picked it up off CL. The frame damage is a bummer but I already picked up a donor front frame section and have the ability to get it repaired right. It is very complete and original. After inspecting it, we agreed to a price and I drug it home. My plan is to get it running (already done) and driving and clean it up the best I can without getting rid of too many bumps and bruises. So far, I’m very pleased with the condition. I gave it a good wash and will start polishing once I get it on the road.

I’m sure I’ll have lots of questions as I go. I have been around FJ40’s since I rode home in my dad’s 67 when I was born but the 45 is a new world in some ways.

Thank you all for the welcomes and congratulations!

Thank you! I am in NorCal, up in the foothills outside Lincoln. It was the one in Dunsmuir.

I’ve been watching for one that was complete and solid. This one has plenty of experience but is solid and complete. The necessary repairs are well suited to my abilities and I really like the originality.

I’m northeast of Lincoln Ca.

I’m really excited to see how it polishes up too!

Thank you! I didn’t notice a brass tag when I was looking at the vin plate but I’m going to have to double check.

So far, the frame looks straight from the crossmember back. My plan is to cut the outer “C” of the frame under the shock mounts and rivet the donor portion to the inner “C” to get it lined up. I’ll tighten weld the frame up the rivet the shock mount back on as a gusset. I’ll probably also add a fishplate on the inside with some rosettes. I hope that makes sense, haha.

Thank you for the link. I am working on reading through it now. Part of it is inline with my initial plan but there are some great ideas that I’ll add in.

Greetings, Dustin and congratulations on your 45! I'm just now starting on this thread and I see you're in the Lincoln area. That caught my eye since I'm in Rocklin and I've got a '65 shortbed that I found on Bethel Island in the east bay back in 2009. I wouldn't mind making the short trip up and looking at the progress being made on the 45. Who knows, maybe I've got a part or two you might need? Let me know. Pete (ctcv1984).

Wow another Capri blue 45 in Lincoln. Can't wait to see it up and driving. My buddy on 193 has a capri blue 40 we like to cruise the backroads up to Hidden Falls or Auburn. You will have to join us on a ride.
Hey, Blackcat37, ctcv1984 here in Rocklin. Wouldn't mind meeting up in the Auburn area and talking 45's. I've got a '65 shortbed in the garage. Let me know. Pete.
