Unbolted everything I could. The big panels and will be replaced with new skid plates, the rest is off the sandblaster. The worst two parts are there we are diff and the front part of the four-wheel-drive. Not sure what to call it, the differential and tube. Anyway, my plan is to attack them with wire brush wheel

Here’s what looks like after all the parts are off. Doesn’t look too bad now, most of the rust was on the lower hanging pieces that came off. Exhaust is the only thing that I’m concerned with, we’ll see how long it lasts

Got the parts from the sandblaster on Friday, primed on Saturday and painted it on Sunday. For those of you that don’t follow my other threads, always used Southern polyurethane epoxy primer and John Deere blitz black on undercarriage parts. Wheels are for my 97 Land Cruiser

Updates. Probably have about 12 hours in this project so far. I’m big about doing things the correct way. Process was first to clean everything with oil/ grease and wax remover — two passes to make sure everything was clean. Then wire brushes grinders, whatever to get the rust cleaned up. And prep for paint.

You may notice small amounts of rust here and there, I’m using chassis saver that actually recommend leaving a little rust for the product to adhere To.

My wife’s 2010 tan 460 just hit 50k last month. Might be a build rig someday but I got too many now

Just got the email that the RCI plates are ready to pick up.....

Finally found time to install the skid plates that I bought from RCI several months back. I also wanted to take time to give a quick review of the product and the install as I’m very impressed with these products.
I bought 3 items from RCI the fuel tank skid, front and transmission skid plates. Since they are not listed for the GX460, here are the items you will need.....

1 | T4R-10-13-04-14ALBK | 10-18 4Runner Fuel Tank Skid Plate

Material: 1/4" 5052 Aluminum / Black

Powder Coat

1 | T4R-10-13-01-14ALBK-KDS | 10-18 4Runner Front Skid Plate

Material: 1/4" 5052 Aluminum / Black

Powder Coat

KDSS: KDSS

1 | T4R-03-09-02-V8-14ALBK | 03-09 4Runner Transmission Skid Plate

Vehicle Model: 4.7L V8 Motor

Material: 1/4" 5052 Aluminum / Black

Powder Coat

Before I go any further, they did not give me any freebies to do this review..... They did however provide great communication customer care. Here is the instructions sent with each item, as well there was all new hardware.

Before and after. The fuel skid only need one modification and that was that the front passenger side mounting point needed a spacer or you could cut the profile of the mounting arm. I decided to use five stainless washers as the bolts were plently long enough. Besides that, it bolted in the factory locations, no special modification to the body needed. Truly a 20 minute project. Looks amazing afterwards, and well protected. (yes, my driveshaft is rusty....)

Here is the mount that has the stack of washers behind it.

I installed the next two pieces basically together as they share two bolts. Once again, all bolt in factory locations. Here’s a pic showing all the access points for oil.

Six bolts hold the front plate, sharing to the hold part of the rear plate. The transmission plate is held in by four bolts in the rear and the two shared in the front

Granted, I have a lift and a transmission jack to hold stuff in place, and all the old stock parts were already gone.... Having said that, it was 1.5 hours by myself to install all the parts.

highly recommend RCI.

@2fpower that's a lot of hard work under your rig, very impressive. I wanted to get RCI but they don't make the complete kit? Budbuilt isn't ready to release theirs yet, but that will be the whole deal.

Yes, not a "kit" but they have these three pieces that work perfectly.

When I talked to them early this year, if you want to do the transfer plate, you have to have to adapt it slightly for the KSSS. I opted to wait until this is "my" rig to do anything other protection.

I think all three pieces were about $1k. Bud Built kit is about $2k for aluminum and I don't remember if they offer powder coating or not.

Nice job with the rust mitigation. I'm surprised at how much rust was on the front diff - you'd think it would have a heavy duty coat of heat resistant paint on it.

You should take these pictures to the Lexus guy you spoke with and show him what you think of his surface rust....
