Hi Guys,

My speedo/odometer doesn't work - never did since i got it. It is the new electonic type with digital odometer display and electronic speedo.

So, the speedo doesnt move and there is nothing on the odometer - no digital numbers.

The EPC shows only a computer (basically the odometer) and a speed sensor on the transfar - and a wiring harness. I ordered the wiring harness as it was only 74 bucks and is easy to replace, the speed sensor is 230 and the computor is 380 - so I am not going to buy those until I can atleast test them first.

The shop manual doesnt have the newer type of speedo and odometer in it - so I don't know how to test it - anyone know how to test the speed sensor/speedo and odometer computer?

Anyone have an electrical diagram for the 79 series?

Thanks.

 I just ordered the speed sensor, cause it was missing, didn't think there'd be a computer. I guess I should get the wiring harness for it too. I sort of need to know km if I want to use it for work. Sorry can't help you, but I am interested in what you find out.
Cheers,
Deny

Your speed sensor is missing? The part on the tranny?

Does your odometer display a mileage?

The wiring harness is cheap compared to everything else - 74 bucks - and it is for the transmission /fuel sender etc.

The odometer readout under the speedo - that is actually the computer - it is just a little tiny things that displays your odometer - not sure how it is related to the speedo - does your speedo work?

I have yet to start it, since when we were loading it onto my trailer, the suspension was not finished, and Cory broke my radiator, and I haven't intalled the new one yet. the sensor was missing, cut wires, I figured it was just a plug and the sensor was inside the t-case, apparently not the case, so a new sensor is also waiting on me at DHL at the moment along with all my other parts.

Cheers,

$561.

Louis,
contact Brian at ENS, he might be able to walk you through the tests or supply you a manual...

1) do you have that wiring harness part number?
2) did you get your speedo to work?
3) do you have a working tachometer?

I have a cobbled together HZJ79. I think the wiring harness is about a 2002. I have a speedo sender (same as an 80-series). But I don't have the speedo harness at all... and not even sure if I have the plug on the main harness (I'm guessing its near the driver's fender?), as the shop that built the truck hacked up the harness here and there.

For a tachometer... I have the sending unit on the IP. But I don't think I have the wires in my harness. The middle (blue-colored) plug on the back of my gauge cluster only has about 4 wires going into it. I do have a cluster with a tach (from Australia). Any idea how to wire the tach sender into the blue plug? Like, which pin-out it should be?

if I had a good late model 7X wiring diagram I think I could figure this out...
