Great write up pics and info.
Ive read this post to late and was going to mention i thought the cross member and tank would be in the way, its cool you worked around it.
How much did the tank have to go back , wondering if a ute would have enough cab length to allow the tank to go back if you changed it to a auto

Clint
So far in researching this project I've only come across one ute in QLD that has an auto trans and so far no Troopys

It works good, there is one in town here that has a 12HT and auto out of a HJ61 and it goes very nice.

Way cool. I'm in the midst of swapping a a440f into a manual hzj77. As you mentioned some work to it but overall not so terrible. We dropped the manual last night and looked at some of the battles ahead including:
Exhaust mods
Fuel line routing after exhaust mods
Drive shaft changes
Crossmember mount changes
Tranny cooler addition
The little wiring.

So far so good

Tim,

i got to ask... if you just bought another troopy again and were thinking of the auto, why didn't you go for a HDJ75? money obviously wasn't the issue! :)

congratulations on the pioneering build, you must be itching to get her out into the soft stuff!

cheers

Hahaha, I'm asking myself the same question... Money was an object when I bought it as I had wifey breathing down my neck :crybaby: so I bought with an eye for what had already been spent and with potential. As for now, I had no idea it would become such an obsession and cost so much. Yeah, I can't wait to get down the coast. Winter is coming, that's the best time of the year here for the being in the ocean. In between that and here is looots of boggy sand :D

As for pioneering, maybe, it's certainly one of few and it's been a lot of fun, I'd do it again

christ!, if she was breathing down your neck when you bought it, its now a wonder you still have a wifey!... or was it written off as a necesary health&safety issue due to the gummy foot hahaha

In this case Hulsty, it's the only way to make it fit. I can't find any other flex plate setup that will match the A440F/1HZ with the same ring gear clearance for my starter motor.

I thought it was going to just bolt right up :-(

The performace mods will definitely be needed as a 1HZ behind an auto trans will be veeery gutless.

Still stands though Hulsty, I'm a complete amateur having a crack, I couldn't find any information on this so I just made it work. I've come across 2 guys who have put autos in utes and one running a ford straight 6, but no troopys

I'm pretty sure this is the only one in Australia (big call, I know) if I could find another I'd love to talk to the owner and check it out. I've picked up whispers that there is a variant of narrow front troopy/auto somewhere overseas but tracking down parts from here plus shipping costs would be near on insurmountable.

One thing's for sure, I would definitely have used off the shelf parts if I could

I just didn't have all the info I needed. As I said, amateur :D The Toyota 4 x 4 "Specialist" wrecker (in Wannaroo) said the one they sold me was the only one that would fit

you are probably going to want to do an airbox if your planning 16lbs of boost as its a huge restriction.

I had it running at 18psi on the Denco before I pulled it apart, I'm now going to be running a GT2871 with a Big Head actuator so I'm hoping for 20psi. I have a 6" (4" in/out) in line K & N pod setup being fed by a big snorkel
