Yes this works for cracked or broken hinges.Does the @Oakleyguy fix work if the hinge is cracked / broken?
Don't mean to jack the thread from Air Door breakages to "Dealer Antics" but....I work with SA Kent Williams at Groove for 20+ years (4Runners/Sequoia/Land Cruiser) and have never been pushed any additive with my oil change. I also change my own air filters and lock my glove box on the LC to avoid any issues with my recirc mechanism. Otherwise been very happy with the Groove service dept. and trust they see more of these trucks than your average Toyota service shops.
Messages crossed at the same time. Appreciate the quick response. Ordered!!Yes this works for cracked or broken hinges.
Happy to report Recirc door arm replacement both pretty easy and successful. Some items are slightly different in my ‘21 HE from the video instruction in terms of trim removal, but nothing too challenging at all. All in all, works great.Messages crossed at the same time. Appreciate the quick response. Ordered!!
And, broke out the label maker to put “DO NOT CHECK FILTER”. “DO NOT OPEN”, “HANDS OFF!!” On the filter door in the glove box. Keep the Wrench Monkeys at bay hopefully!
Never been pitched any additive in my 20+ years servicing many Toyotas at Groove in Englewood CO…sorry must have been another dealer and SA!Don't mean to jack the thread from Air Door breakages to "Dealer Antics" but....
....the tab with Groove is:
1) Broken Recirc door (100% working before bringing in) - I know 'cause I change filters myself.
2) Text last Friday with "Service Notice" - had a big red exclamation mark with "5 items Failed" and a "recommended service" of $811. Five FAILURES - my word, what could it be!!??
The BS "service estimate" is attached for enjoyment.
Love the "Install BG Fuel Additive..." which helpfully tells me in all CAPS that it "HELPS MAXIMIZE THE FUEL MILEAGE OF YOUR -VEHICLE, WHICH CAN HELP SAVE MONEY AT THE PUMP". Thank you sir, may I have another...
Next up, "Install BG Motor Oil Additive.... " and again in all CAPS informs me, "CAN HELP REDUCE COSTLY ENGINE REPAIRS." My lucky day!
These are two "FAILED" items? Really??
I think they saw a petite blond (my wife) dropping off an LC200 and said, hey, maybe some $$ to be harvested, lets try this move...
Just reinforces the dual idea of A) sketchy service advisors selling BS to unsuspecting customers as they look to hoover as much $ as possible and B) untrained wrench monkey breaking things. I'm betting $20 that the oil filter housing is torqued down like a Cummins headbolt. Sigh...
Prior to this, on one of my "Prepaid" oil changes few years back - they said alignment was out (showed me a printout with a very, very slight toe-in out of spec. Said, "sure - align" as I just had new KO2s put on. Came back severe pull to one side. Took it back, oh, yeah, way out, whoops, we will do it again. Back to Groove for a service to get it remedied. Should have learned then.
Mr. Williams might want to do a little 'training' with some of his staff that just because a petite blonde (my wife) drops off an LC200, it does not mean "fresh meat" to sell snake oil (BG fuel & oil additive...) and then break things (air recirc door). Sigh....
Back to the issue - anyone know if @Oakleyguy's fix addresses a broken right side hinge?
(PS - I was wrong about stating the air filter replacement was $74 - it was 'only' $57 - for a $15 - $20 part & less than 3min of work)
8 hours sounds like warranty pay. That would be the perfect time to take a few days off work.Oakleyguy’s fix takes maybe 20-30 minutes, maybe less.
The factory replacement is like 8 hours
