Nice job! As someone who had non-working CDL when bought too, sure is an awesome feeling to finally see those 3 lights light up solid! Enjoy

Thanks bro!

Anyone in sacto have an inner axle seal I can buy of them today?

Day 24: fill up number 3: 14.6 mpg. :)

Yucky...

Day 24: after the tank of gas, with a bottle of injector cleaner, I started my front end rebuild with a trip to the coin op car wash to degrease those nasty knuckles.

Got everything torn down and cleaned all parts, prepped for reinstall.

Day 27: busy week: helped a buddy do a head gasket on his 85 Datsun truck, and finally got back in my garage and completed the front end rebuild. (No pic yet)
It was a fun project, my first full knuckle job. I ran into some delays: gave a buddy one of my inner axle oil seals while doing his knuckle rebuild over the weekend, so had to wait for mine to arrive at local dealer on tues, then when reinstalling knuckle on pass side on weds, had half of a steering arm stud fall out of the knuckle right as I was about to put the torque wrench to it. I ordered all 4, and picked them up from the dealer on thurs and reinstalled everything.

With regards to bearing preload: I used a fish scale, well, technically I bought a "luggage scale" and in order to get a reading of about 10lbs, I ended up needing to torque the adjusting nut to about 25ft/lbs, after the initial 47 ft lbs, spin, loosen, retorque, spin, loosen, hand tighten. 25# at this point in the process is consistent with what others have done, so I am pretty comfortable with it. I will check the hubs and bearings out as I start to put some miles on her. I will probably just go straight to 25lbs from now on and not mess with the fish scale again...

Next up: belts, new fan clutch, 555 tre's, dome lights, cdl button and pin 7(maybe), rad flush, and some other pm.

Good ideas!
I'm leaning towards a non-name name. Like the Green Weenie, or Green n Mean, or THOR (ok, that's a name, but I like it)...

Lol! Yep, on the short list!

Because now the paint and sheet metal underneath them is dented and scratched. Damage multipliers, not guarding anything!!! I would rather have a busted taillight than dented and scratched paint and body. Search "damage multiplier"

Week 4: Well, finished up week 4 of ownership by deciding on the name for my rig: THOR. Cuz he's got big balls!! (Also referred to as lockers!)
Got some more PM done: oem belts, oem blue hub fan clutch, and I forgot to mention earlier that I swapped the diff drain and fill plugs for the magnetized 10mm Allen socket plugs. Thanks Georg!!

I think the name needs to be feminine. As my wife tells me "you spend a lot of time under HER".....

True, good point..... Maybe Leslie. My last cruiser was Betsy...

Looking good A. I'd go with Hunter... i knew a Hunter in my prowler days... whew what a gal...

J

Thanks! Hunter just might work....

Week 5: ended the week by filling up 21.5 gals, 212 miles, 9.9 mpg!!!! Wtf!!??? :(

Month 3: 10.8 mpg (I have a new-to-me intake tube I need to install)

In route to DC Fabrication to drop Hunter off for full armor fab!! I'm the fortunate client who gets to leave my rig with him so he can establish some jigs to start selling his kickass front bumper, sliders and rear setup with swing outs!

I have TJM progressive springs on order, sway bar and bump stop extensions on order, doetsch long shocks paid for, and black Teflon rims with 315 Km2s mounted paid for (need mudship for wheels and shocks from Phoenix and Turlock respectively to Sacramento).

She's coming along!!

Oh, and post 1000 :flipoff2:  :wrench:

And yes, Hunter is Her official name now. Thanks J!
