Okay, so maybe this is a stupid question... But why the heck is the box attached to the front of your air filter housing? A secondary air filter, or a pre-filter? I don't have that on my '97

It's part of the PAIR system that is on 93-94 models. The device you are referring to is a resonator that sits between the air cleaner and the PAIR valve next to the head.

I just learned something new. Now I'll have to go look it up to understand what it does...

Thanks for clearing that up for me, now I know that I am not missing needed parts :)

Thanks to Beno, now have in route:

CDL switch
Oem oil filter (x2)
Oil pan drain plug crush washer (x2)
Valve cover gasket
Throttle body gasket
Spark plug tube seals
PCV breather tube
Other valve cover breather tube
Gas cap
Fuel filter
Belts (x3)

Good haul :) what oil filter did you get, I don't suppose Beno still has any of the nifty 20004 (I think) made in Japan small filters?

If you don't want to put out the coin for new hood shocks the 60 series hood bracket will mount right up.

Ordered yesterday. (Posted in "McMaster Carr part #" thread, forgot to put here!)

I should have said a big thank you to Beno for the words of wisdom and advice to this new guy! Much appreciated pm advice!

so glad to you in an 80 bro!!! lets get to wrenching on that bitch ASAP. She needs to hit some trails before the summer is over!!!!

Thanks bro! Yes she does!!! Pm'd you wrenching days... Heck, open invite to any NorCal/sacto/solano co cruiserheads: cold beer awaits, evening wrench sessions or Saturdays for the next couple weeks!

Hood and rear latch struts arrived yesterday! they look good and will go on tonight!!

Day 11: (Tues 8/20)
Charged ac with 12 oz (nice and cold at speed, but leaves something to be desired at standstill. I'm thinking a good rad and condenser cleaning is in order(wet, soak with simple green, rinse, repeat), and fan clutch!

Also, Temp gauge went up the same day, I noticed the coolant boiling into overflow, overflow overflowing a little.... Grrrr... So, fan clutch (clued by AC issue also), rad cap, and the pm items already in rte from Beno...

Day 14: second tank of gas: 247.8 miles, 19.6 gals, 12.6 mpg (grrrr) (probably 70/30 hwy/city, pwr button on most of it)

Day 15: installed McMaster Carr struts, front and rear... Love them!!! Little tiny touching on rear at full open, but I don't mind ;) and the front created a tiny gap and rear of hood, but no biggie!! (Prob good for a lil hot air venting actually, but maybe not even big enough for that).

I'm 5 years on the McMaster gas struts and they are as strong as the day I bought 'em.
Welcome!!!

Great to hear! Finished today and they are sweet!! Looking forward to years of service from them!!
And great to be in the 80 section, thanks for the welcome!! (Miss my Betsy though!)

Nice score Finny.

Thanks!

Prepping for a weekend of wrenching.
To do's:
Fan clutch
Rad cap
Coolant flush
Power steering flush
CDL and pin 7 mod
Get cdl to actuate/work (hopefully just the switch/position sensor)
Valve cover gasket and t-body gasket
Valve cover/PCV hoses
Front end rebuild: (knuckles, seals, bearings, washers, tre's. and steering stabilizer)

Day 18: CDL hasn't worked (and hence the front and rear lockers haven't worked) since I got the rig, (I used it to negotiate a better purchase price) and just now got around to tinkering with it. I pulled the connector on the cdl position switch, used a paper clip as a jumper to connect the two female receptacles within the connector, went and turned the key to "on", and poof, my elusive cdl dash light came on :D
So I pulled the cdl position switch and began looking for my multimeter to test it. had to go buy a new multimeter because I couldn't find mine
Got home, had infinite resistance on switch without depressing it, and about 100-150 resistance when depressed. :/ banged on the metal hex part of the switch housing and had about 60-100 resistance, knocked it again a few times, 30-60, came to mud, searched, found some cdl threads with advice about cycling/depressing the switch rapidly about 20 times, so I played with it (the switch boys, the switch!), and had 000-006ish resistance. :D
Happy camper!!

Nice job! As someone who had non-working CDL when bought too, sure is an awesome feeling to finally see those 3 lights light up solid! Enjoy
