That cone washer/nut torque seems a bit high - checking and will post if it is high.

Wow, my FSM says 26 ft-lbs. I recall when I assembled them it seemed a little excessive - perhaps this is why some are snapping these studs off. Go with the FSM.

26 lb-ft is correct. Remember those studs are hardened and so are the nuts and washers. If I had to substitute a "standard" nut I would back off on the torque a bit and get the correct nut comming.

Aside from it being the "real thing" is there an advantage to getting the Toyota one? I don't have one yet -- so it's either off to sears or add another thing to the C-Dan list.

Aside from it being a "factory special service tool" it has a 1/2 inch drive as opposed to a 3/4 inch drive like most sockets that big and the walls are the proper thickness.

How much did you pay for your FSM? I went to Lexus dealer parts department today but they were closed.

What is the acceptable preload on front bearing? I'm using a Haynes manual but it is not listed in there.

Oh yeah, Snap on sells 54MM socket for under $20 bucks.

My suggestion would be that you get the LC FSM (from C-Dan) and order just the LX EWD.

Mechanically speaking, I don't think there's enough difference to warrant getting the LX FSM. Wiring is different enough to warrant the othe guide.

I have the 97 LC FSM and EWD and use them for my LXs.

Doug,

I may have to do just that. Order the LC FSM from Cdan and EWD from Lexus. As I was driving down to the dealer, I was thinking that there was not much of a different as far as mechanical between LX and LC.

I will give Cdan a call on Monday.

See Cruiserdans post above for preload instructions
