Subscribed- I need to get this mod on my short list. I usually don't to work on the cruiser during daylight hours.

This is hands down one of the best mods I have done on my rig!

LEDs

Funny... I just installed mine yesterday. Ran the positive wire through the interior of the hood on the right side. Fished a piece of hard wire from the top right opening down to the bottom. A little frustrating, but I was able to make it happen. For the ground, I just shortened the wire off the LED and used a sheet metal screw right to the hood. Still need to install a switch and tidy up the wiring, otherwise, it's awesome. I actually bought four of the 24" units, two for the Cruiser and two for my van. Installed one in the van yesterday as well using the wiring for the stock dome light.
Here's a pic of the LC in my shop at dusk with shop lighting off.
I love these lights and am going to incorporate some in my near future roof top tent/ annex room/ awning!!!

I've done something similar with a couple of led strips from ozinium

Waterproof Ribbon LED Strips

I also used a door pin switch on the ground so it only comes on when the hood is open

Adjustable Door / Hood Pin Switch

Mine is always live, I figured it's not pulling enough power to worry about switching it, I can easily disconnect the wires or pull the fuse if I have the hood open all day.

Soooo is your ground wiring of the light going to the tab of the pin switch and your + is going to the power source/battery? Am I understanding that correctly. Im doing this mod tonight or tomorrow....already got the stuff. Thanks.

I finally said the hell with an underhood light that is a PITA. I grabbed an 2300Lumen Plug & Play 120 & 12V light from Home Depot for $20. Incredibly bright, perfect!

for my install I used a "pin switch" for the job, mounted to the hood near the latch. Provides ground to the LED strip. There are pictures somewhere. It was easy - the hard part was getting the ground wire attached.

@Timpanogos Slim, Id really like to see some pictures of your "Pin Switch" setup. That is basically what Im gonna be going for.
