How are you shocking? I am about 3-4" of lift and am wondering if there is a preferred shock that someone could suggest a part number for.........Thanks in advance

I DONT recomend the procomp mx-6 adjustables... I am running them now and are probably the worst I have owned? I have their other shocks before and was pleased? After I put my 64" springs and FF in the rear I will be switching to either Bilstins or Rancho 5000's which both seem to be the two mostly talked about?
My .02

Thanx so far.....

runnin' Doetsch Tech on mine. Happy so far

I too am running the Doetsch Tech on my 40 and I like them.

I heard that they are manufactured by the same supplier as the Bilsteins...

I thought DT made their own at their place in San Diego

Could be wrong :meh:

DT make theyre own upper end shocks, the lower end is farmed out, just something ive heard, not 100%.
i have a set of DT3000 on mine, very soft and sway ALOT, but i like them and drive appropriately.

Can anyone tell me the proper way to measure for shocks. What should I consider fully compressed/extended? What is the ideal up and down travel ratio, etc...?
Phone # for doetsch tech?
Awesome, thanx.

Luv it. Keep feedin me- us. ;)

The way I measured mine was to sit the pig full weight on the suspension:

  1. Measure the distance between shock mounting points (call this X)
  2. Measure the distance between bump stop and axle point (call this B)
  3. Take X and subtract B then subtract 1" more. I called this my fully compressed length.
Using the fully compressed length, I looked through the bilstien website and found a shock that was the compressed length +/- about 1/2"

To me, easier to put a limit strap on rather than killing the available compression ;)

I did the same as L J

I also jacked each end up and measured the pin to pin distance at full droop

one that doesn't use studs...i hate studs and i can't believe toyota was so cruel as to put them on the wagons. i have holes in the fenders of both pigs from the studs poking through. put adapters in on the green pig (they didn't make stud shocks long enough when i started springing it over anyway)

Ordered today... doetsch tech, and stabilizer. Will get pics when they arrive. And part numbers and specs.

Fronts are 8180. 13" compressed, 21.5" extended. Rears are 8277: 14.5" compressed, 24.5" extended. Bit of grease on the poly bushings and they go right on. They have integrated bumpstops :). I have the steering damper and included hardware, but won't put it on till I do the center arm in the next couple of weeks....

Yes, the fronts are for the factory mounts- and bolt right on, as were the rears. I haven't done anything w/ the steering or shock mounts yet other than r+r ing the manual steering box. One day I will do something about both of those issues. Will let you know how she rides hopefully after this w/e! With the hardware that came w/ the damper, it looks like a :banana:job. Bogus will know more on that. The grand total to my door including state sale tax was 271.43. That's 4 shocks and a steering damper w/ hardware.

Did not get the drive shaft bolts this w/e, have to give a rolling report l8r this week....pics in mean time

I'm super excited! I just got 2 of my Rancho 9k's replaced on warranty. I originally bought them in 98 and have had 3 of them replaced in 12 years when the valving stops valving. I'm a big fan of the adjustibility.

Thats good to know. A company that stands behind their product, huh?
