I've had my cruiser about six months, and I've been under the hood playing til now. I've avoided the blown speaker(s) by dropping the bass and not getting to aggressive with the volume, but it's time for some improvement.

Seems like I read that some just replace the 4 door speakers and cut loose the dozen or so dash and cargo speakers. Sound right? I'm not looking for a personal theater experience... I just want to listen to some tunes. Thinking about going oem to avoid fit issues. So... how many do I need to get rocking?

4 speakers(the eclipses), one in each door. Disconnected the dash and cargo speakers. Search for eclipses and my name and you should find a thread detailing my install of the speakers. They fit very nicely and sound great.

2" tweets in dash, 5-1/4" mids in front doors, 5-1/4 2way in rear doors, 2 8" subs in box in cargo area, 5 channel 700w amp with crossover, sat ready deck single din, and loss of hearing

1" tweeters in the dash 6 3/4" mid in the front doors in a custom mold, 4" rear door, 2 15" subs in a sealed box in the rear. 600x4 for the highs 800x1 for the lows 2 1.0 Farad capacitors LOTS of wires. Subs are Kicker, amps Fosgate, highs ans mids Audiobahn. PM me with any questions.

I'm afraid the only question I'd ask is if you do any pro bono work. I'm looking at running a stock deck and four affordable door speakers.

Guess I could throw new tweets in the dash. What's the stock dash speaker size?

3.5" of about 1.5" (total) mounting depth will fit. The one on the driver side goes in without any problem. However, the one on the PS needs some mods but very minor.

Ditto. I used the disconnected dash speakers as an external for my in dash CB.

Works schweetly!

I've got 5. Lightening audio 6.5's in front doors (had to make a spacer so they would fit, 4's in back doors. 1 10" sub in a isobaric bandpass box in the back. A JBL 4 channel amp under drivers front seat and 1 punch 120 a2 2 channel in the back. JVC in dash cd single DIN. Sounds pretty good and the lightening audios are pretty cheap at wally world.

Here is what I am planning on doing. Keep in mind you will have to have the speakers on the outside of the door--no factory location--my PO took care of this already for me. I am shopping in ebay becuase it is cheap. Take a few weeks and watch ebay--something will always come up. Always buy new. With this set up you can purchase an adapter to run a dell mp3 or the more popular ipod for skip free music. If you install it on your own you are looking at $237 with pretty good sound.......

Pioneer premier 6.5 up front $55

I just got in my replacement front door speakers from Dan, just so I wouldn't have to listen to the crackling anymore. I think the stock system sounds fine, except for the sub in the rear. Is it actually any good for bass, or is it there for looks?

I posted this in the past on a different thread... but... here goes...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After searching pretty much all the sound shops and anyone who carried

speakers within my area, I was able locate a pair of speakers that fitted

to my 97 FZJ80 (Front) with some spacers.

I bought the Pioneer TS-G1340R, 5.25" 2Way 300W for $50. Just finished

installing it and sounds a lot better than stock while keeping stock look...

I've used the following extra parts...

1. (8) 14x1" screws
2. (8) 1/2" nylon spacers

Ditto, exactly, plus a 12" Alpine powered by an Alpine amp bridged mono. Pushing the 4 door speakers with an Alpine 50X4 head.

I'm not aware of a stock sub in the back. The Lexus has a stock sub in the console, or at least as an option.
