How does your 100 series ride in town?

I feel everything in my 03, but I didn’t used to. Bought is with 119k about 22 months ago. I’m currently just shy of 153k. One owner, original everything as far as suspension components go.

It rode so smooth for the first year, then ride quality started to degrade. It got so bad that I even took to a dealership to have them run a multipoint and check all suspension related components. All they came back with was front shocks and UCA’s.

Well, I wasn’t paying $1900 for them to do that, so I ordered and installed them myself. Zero improvement on ride quality. Even put new shocks on the rear. My rear passenger one was so bad that it wouldn’t even release back out from when I compressed it to remove.

This is quite frustrating though, as there is no improvement and I feel a good bit more in the rear end, even with new OEM shocks.

After 20 years of service, rear control arm bushings are usually past their useful life - new ones usually make a hude difference in ride quality

05 LC with a little over 150k. All original suspension. Still rides smooth. No noises, no clunks. I'm completely stock and running Michelin Defenders.

That said, "how does it ride in town"? As you'd probably expect... smooth, but heavy, and slow. I typically prefer one of our other vehicles for in town driving / errands - especially if I'm solo.

Classyjalopy is on the money about the rear control arms. The rubber hardens and tears. New sway bar bushings/ends make a huge difference as well. Go with toyota rubber.

Poorly, unless I want to air down to 25psi. Loaded with camping gear driving on washboard at speed it is much better. I have it set up for desert duty, so it works for me

I think it rides pretty well (all stock, new OE Toyota shocks and springs, + Michelin Defenders), a heck of a lot better than my 3rd gen 4R. That said it's still a body on frame 4x4.

Mine rides very plush in town or highway. 2001 318k and all stock with new shocks/ball joints on defenders. I will be changing rear arms this year, but I replaced all the swaybar components a couple years ago (bushings and links). The sways had more effect on handling, but it did get rid of some clunks/rattles. Sometimes the sound of hitting bumps tricks your brain into thinking your truck is riding rough.

Mine rides great on highways (when the highway in question isn't shot to sh*t-thanks Manitoba) but in the city it's a nightmare at times. Rough and stiff and honestly sometimes downright unbearable. Riding on ironman foam cell pros and Cooper 285s, I think the tires are the heavy duty version (3ply sidewall etc) and they probably don't help with ride quality.

I've had several 100 Owners in mine in the past year. All have commented on how amazing it rides.

285/75/18 Ridge Grapplers @ 35PSI (E Rated)
OME Torsion Bars
Slee SOF2RH Springs
Bilstein B8's
Mostly "Built"

I might follow your recipe @2000UZJ

Our 2001 lx470 about 320,000 miles.

Mine has 285 65 r 18 trail grappler mt

OME lift
TT front links
spc ucas
With iron man shocks
Front and rear slee bumpers with rear swing out and winch on the front.
slee dif drop

My front might be set a little too high but nothing crazy.

It rides absolutely horrible!!!

About to order about $2000 worth or parts to replace the steering rack has over 100,000 miles on it, a blown OEM front axle, and the steering column u joint etc. and other parts all oem.

I love the truck but it rides terrible and always having trouble with cv axles. After reading this thread I’ll probably be buying more parts, bushings etc. I’ve about had it. Either get rid of it if I finally don’t get to the bottom of it or SAS it!!!

Our stock LC 2000 rides smooth also has about 320,000 on the clock and original cv axles.

I rented a 2025 Range Rover Velar over the weekend and really missed how my 1998 Lx soaked up the bumps in the road, even on Ko2’s. So…I’d say it rides pretty good.

If you weren't a 4 hour drive, I'd say swing down to Atlanta. Which springs do you have? I came from 863's and OME Shocks. It rode like a log wagon lol

Uh kinda crazy @2000UZJ ! I’m down east of Atlanta now in social circle and going back tomorrow late or early Friday morning. Probably too late of notice this trip but I could catch up next trip. I think they are the 863 but I’ll have to check.

You can ping me and we can try to link up. I'm in Smyrna, so if you roll up 75 you'll pass right by. I'm about 10 minutes from the Battery.

Ride is very dependent on shock valving. The one thing I have noticed for 100 series "upgraded" shocks is the reduction in ride comfort with no real upside. I would try the Eibachs or Bilsteins if I wasn't on OE shocks.
