The fsm has instructions if you have the key and can turn it to the acc position. I do not have keys and have searched and either do not have the right language or there is not anything on this. I pulled both the passenger and driver door took them to the lock smith. No key code stamped on the lock core

What next?

See if you have another, similar, key...or even slim screwdriver or other implement. Toyota locks were not too picky back in the day.

I did not get an keys with the truck. The one I got made for the doors does not turn it will try some screwdrivers. Do i run the risk of really damaging things with the screwdriver?

yes, you can ruin the ignition tumblers ;)

get everyone you know with older toyotas and try their keys. there were only something like 12 different key codes then.

Hmm. I am the only person I know right now. I will have to come and borrow the old key drawer from you guys one weekend coming up. Ton of other stuff to do before I need to worry about this I guess. Looks like someone had the column apart to Hotwire it at some point so will just do that once I get closer.

Thanks for the suggestions and I will get after what I can in the mean time

A good locksmith can make you a key with the cylinder in the truck. Takes them about 10 minuets. If you have one close - give them a call. They may need help finding the correct blank though.

Good luck!

I second the old keys approach. I got my cruiser without keys as well. I used an old fj60 key and wiggled it back and forth enough while pushing the "pin" and the cylinder pulled out. Then took it to a local lock smith and had it rekeyed.

I have the cowl/ housing all apart I have the pin exposed and am able to push it down. No dice getting it out without that key in the acc position. Hmm I need different locksmith cause the one I took the cores too took two weeks to get the key made.

I had the same problem on one of my 40s. I bought a blank key for ace and "locksmithed" myself a key with a chainsaw sharpening file. I think the technique is called impressioning. You put a blank key in the tumbler, wiggle it back and forth. File a couple passes where you see marks, repeat until the key turns. Worked for me. Cheaper than calling a locksmith. -Steve
