How about a yearly run for 7x cruisers??

If stock rigs are going to show up as well, the Rubicon is out of the question. make it an easy run/gathering/barbecuing/fishing/beerdrinking, you'll get more participation, imho.

speaking of moab any of you all making 2005?

I'm signed up...I'll be making the run from Sacramento to Moab on the Wednesday showing up Thursday....Looong drive in a 70! I was talking to Jeff Zepp a few weeks back and it seems like we have a few 70's showing up this year....be cool to get a group shot eh?

i recieved enough flak for having a branch jump out and take out my side 2 windows on the soft top on the HZJ75, i think i would be sleeping on the couch or be forbidden to buy any "new" toys if i banged the 75 up...
this is not to say i won't wheel, just that i will not beat it up on 'stupid' trails (stupid as in stupid for me to be there, NOT stupid as in the trail is stupid)
cheers

It would be my first gathering, so I'm not going to hazard a guess as to what terrain would be prefered, but the word "shiver" doesn't sound like much fun to my soft west-coast bones. I like the thought of the Cascades in September, or Glacier Ntl. Park (trout fishing?), maybe south into the deserts of Idaho/Nevada for some pseudo-Baja stuff?

Moose you missed out on a great time at the RMLCA River Shiver. We had heated trucks and heated cabins and 9 warm meals cooked for us over 3 days.

That being said, I'm in for Idaho for a 70's run.

And come on you 70's owners, I was the only BJ70 (and one HZJ75) at the River Shiver, next year we've got to show those pompus 40 & 60 owners up!!!

yep...
IF i can build another 70 series trail rig, IF i do not care about it, then i am in for rubicon... but then i have a standing offer to do the 'con in a REAL truck... as long as the mini can handle my weight...
cheers

Looks like we'll have a few runs with 70's sprinkled within this year.

The FJ45 Run will be suitable for stockers. They allow for resto'ed 45 wagons and pickups to participate, so the trail they pick is usually mellow. There may be some side trips for those who want to really wheel.

I will be at Moab and I am bringing a group from SD, we might have room left in one of the two cabins we rented if you are interested let me know.

Cheers,

Michael

Great Feedback everyone,

Ok here is what I got out of it so far. We need to have our own run, and we need to take into account that folks will be driving a ways so whatever we do had to accomodate the more stock rigs as well as some nasty stuff for the daring. I am thinking a good trail with some harder stuff that also has bypasses. I like the idea of something in the middle for US and Canadian 70's owners. I am thinking I will be the farthest away coming from the south but I will have a nice ride no matter what I bring so no worries.

I did see some interesting stuff in Montana, Idaho also sounds nice, maybe even Washington? I will look into who is doing anything around these places. What about Oregon? Would that work?? I know they do a lot of stuff there.

As far as the dates I am thinking a month that there is not a big event and I think Wayne picked a good month, does October work??

It would great if we cna pick an area that there is already a 70's cruiser person that has done the trail but we can make do without that if we have to. So maybe a prerun will have to be done, but the 1st annual one could be a good testing ground.

West Coast Cruisers will sponsor the event, what I can think of is promo, shirts, stickers. That is all I can think of for now let me kow what else I am forgetting about .

Let me know your thoughts on this :)

Thank You,

Michael

I hope this idea that Michael has takes off. It would be nice to see more and more recognition and appreciation for 70 series in the Land Cruiser community in general. You never know, Woody might even decide we're worthy enough to have a 70 series in the MUD logo someday. :D

On Another note:

Some of the posts talked about OZ and New Zealand maybe some other places. I just want to tell everyone that if you get a chance to go wheeling far away, perhaps you have a friend you are going to visit or something, DO IT, it is a great opportunity to wheel somewhere you normally would not, and you get to do it with Cruisers heads that farmiliar with the area. I did one of these a few months ago and it was awesome!!! I am always up for wheeling in other lands (when I can get the time off) and I am always willing to take someone wheeling in Southern california if they come into town, so you have an open invitation if you make it to San Diego.

Cheers,

Michael

Stone,

I hope so as well. I think it will based on what me driving a 70's series in southern cal has done. My 40's buddies can not believe what the 70 will do and several are eager to get there hands on a 70 now.

I think it is because of two things, the first it is a 70 series, and the second is becuase I usually drive the "worst" or should I say the "weathered" one I have named Bluey (aviator picture). Bluey is all stock with the exception of a suspension lift, mild just 2" lift but I run AT 35" tires on it with stock 3.70 gears and open front and rear axles and it pretty much goes anywhere must of the time even where is should have lockers and those are very exciting trails to watch bluey on :)

if oct works for everyone then that work for me.
maybe check the area for the past few years rainfall on that week.
i can also see Luxury Imports putting up a nice prize if there is a raffle...

MAYBE i will convince Berni to let me pice up a beat up HZJ77... well, i can dream right?

keep me informed as i am definately interested...
cheers

I love the idea, and I am definitely in, if I know the date a few months in advance. Without a turbo I'll leave two days before Michael from San Diego, then we'll arrive at the same time :)

If you're going to the 'Swell, go for the canyoneering! :flipoff2:

I think Idaho for a lot of people would be feasable, especially with people comming from the States and California. Eric V. and others have done a lot of wheeling in the south half of Idaho.

Another argument to be made is: if driving to Utah, why not just head to the other side of Canyonlands and do Moab?

And, that said, here's a sunny January afternoon in the Robber's Roost area (just south of the 'Swell.)

Hey evveryone,

I am still working on this but been pretty busy wit work lately :( Is anyone out here from oregon or Idaho???? Looking for some experts in this area...Please.

Cheers,

Michael

I used to live in Oregon and there's a place that might be good called Browns Camp. I don't know what the use status is anymore but it offered plenty of mild to hard core trails. My buddies and I used to go and camp and wheel there. It's right outside of Portland to the west. There is also Florence Rec OHV rec area the coast for dunes and such but I think theres too much in the way of salt water for most. I probably wouldn't bring my rig out there.
Just thinking out loud as I don't have a 7* (yet) :).
