hot weather starting

I was wondering if you guys could help me figure out why my cruiser starts and idles low on a hot day. After it has been running and I shut it off, then go to start it up again it doesn't want to start and when I get it started it idles really low( below 500rpms). It is running at 190 degrees on the freeway and around town. When I shut it off it rises to about 220 degrees. Are these numbers ok? Any Ideas for the poor starting and running? Thanks a lot.

no worries about the temp going up when shut off........thats normal, there is no water or air circualting......so it keeps getting hot(er) for a while.

the idle, did it just start doing it?

Is this the factory engine? You most likely are getting some fuel purcolation when you turn it off. So it cranks over several times before starting when hot. When it does start, the carb is very low on fuel, and the engine is partially flooded causing rough/low idle speed until you drive it a block or so and it clears up.

Well, since I have been home yes. But that is because it's like 100 degrees during the day. When I was up at school( where is doesn't get to be more than 80 degrees) I never noticed this problem. It just doesn't want to start or idle after it has been run for a while then shut off in this heat.
Yes I do still have the factory engine in it. It sometimes "diesels" after I shut it off but not that often, is that is what you are talking about?
