Ask for Rex

You will have to repaint the hood. There will be some dings, scratches, and dents added to other areas of the hood as it is very hard for one man to hold a hood by hand and work with it for a few hours. I couldn't be happier with the results.

Just wondering if this gent is still performing this task!

Thanks.

I had Rex put a third row in my hood before SAS2 last year. He still has the Pullmax machine and moved into his own shop/bought the shop from the previous owner. I think I have his cell number I can PM to you.

Thanks for the clarification. My Big alum. Ron Davis radiator is keeping my water temp nice and cool along with the modded fan clutch. I am hoping the louvers will reduce engine temp a bit when the fan kicks on and pushing hot air out the louvers. At this point, I will take 2-3 F cooler in my water temp. Every bit helps

My educated guess is that it won't change your every day drive-around-town engine temps, but rather will help to shed heat when you are really pushing your engine and it's hot outside ... really just slowing the increase in temps. So, before maybe you're spiking to 220 after a 5 minute hill climb in the middle of the summer... and after the louvres maybe its' more like 10-15 minutes, or slower (never?). Does that make sense?

Additionally when you're parked after a drive and 'some' of the heat can naturally evac out of the louvres.

The pictures I took were same day same drive loop. Water temp didnt seem to change. The reason I did this was to help cool off air intake and the under hood fuse box. Before those 2 items were very hot to touch after the test loop. After the louvers those 2 items were noticeably cooler to the touch and that was verified by the thermal camera. The valve cover also seems to be cooler also, while the block temp didnt change much.

That is SICK, SICK, SICK

So are these retractable hood louvers commercially available? If so, where can they be found?

Are they made of steel? I’d like to have them welded into place on my hood, I think that would look pretty awesome.

I'd like to know if vents are available for purchase too

I had a few made and available for sale. They are steel and adjustable so you can open or close as you please.
PM me with your shipping address and I can get costs for you guys.

Those vents look cool and are they the ones that you can open/close? If so, I don't see how!
All you have to do is twist them open as much as you like. In this pic you can see the first vent is open and the rest are close.

Ahhh, very cool. Thanks for the explanation. So, these are not for twisting multiple times but rather "set it and forget it" type.

Hmm, I thought these were adjustable on the fly. That you could open & close them. Again & again.
Close’em if it’s gonna rain or snow, open’em again for sunny days.
I wonder if such a vent exists?

Honestly, I don't see me ever closing them during inclement weather. Heck, my hood is left open 24/7 in order to discourage the rodents from moving in and snow/rain gets all over the engine regularly.
