Spressomon, our one day at Hollister was good. The mud is still clinging to the LX! What really helped was the recent rain and the the fact that it hadnt been raining for weeks on end. It rained just enough to make it fun but not impossible.

Married life is good. Were having a hell of a time mapping out our future. Kate actually recomended we trade the LX in for a Hybrid this morning! Oh I put a stop to that.

As soon as my buddy gets me the 150 pictures he took on to a CD I'll post them up. I might need to buy a star though!

Or you could post all your pictures on www.photobucket.com or www.yahoo.com

Mee too...I am also considering trading in hybrid car with my Legend! I just finished watching Inconvenient Truth. Feel a little guilty about driving my LX...

I think After Kates Honda goes we should help the environment by not buying a "new" car but an old one instead. Say a 1965 Mustang. The 40 year old car is already on the road, we may as well buy that one!

This is not an unreasonable environmental argument. I have read that up to half of all the energy consumed in the life of a vehicle is used to make the steel, plastics and other materials used to build the car in the first place. So, if you can keep a car running longer, you may in the end contribute less greenhouse emissions than buying a new freshly built car. Not sure I believe those numbers, but the principle remains the same.

Prius?? They have really crappy ground clearence. It would be hard to take through the Rubicon!:D

Definitely valid points...it's sorta like...let's see would I rather poke myself in the eye or cut off a hand (obviously any of these transportation 'solutions' for the masses are bad at best for the environment, etc....).

But a cumulative 31+mpg (Prius + my LC100) sounds good for the gasoline budget right now! I can't help but believe we will be back above $3/gallon or more before long...but to be honest my crystal ball is still covered in #hit ;p

Dan,

What about the disposal of the lead acid batteries on the Prius? Isn't that an enviromental issue?
Personally, I like the Honda Fit or the Toyota Yaris. Great gas millage, proven technology.

I think the battery issue is a big part of my hesitation. Is the battery going to end up in a land fill? Am I going to have an acid bath in a big accident? To the credit of Toyota, the battery is supposed to last the life time of the vehicle and they did take steps to isolate the batteries from the occupants, but..........

I better get those Hollister pics up before this thread gets moved.

I do not actually know what type of batteries are being utilized. I would assume (not necessarily a good thing to do  ) the battery contents are or will be recyclable? Everyone that I know that either owns one or has test driven one says how quiet and solid they are when driven and relatively peppy. We are planning to go drive it, et al, after the holidays. And Toyota has increased the warranty for the battery portion to 8-year/100K. As far as I have read there have been minimal battery problems...and virtually all those were the early model year(s).

I thought about it. Too small for family with child seat.... I sold my Matrix for Acura Legend.

FYI. The Prius uses 2 batteries. A small 12V battery (20lbs or so) which is lead acid to drive the electronics and a large battery for the electric motors which weighs less than 100lbs and is NiMH. The first battery will last the normal cycle of 3-5 years as most lead acid batteries, while the second will last more than 10 years on average due to very strict battery management and materials.

Given the fact that most Cruisers run with a 60-70 lb battery that last 3-5 years in normal life cycle, I don't really think it is such a big deal.

Price wise the Yaris or Fit makes a lot more sense if you don't need/want the extra space in a Prius. As I commute a lot the carpool lane stickers was a major consideration for getting the Prius, saves me on average 2-3 hours a week now. And the (then) $3000 tax rebate helped as well.

Ok, heres a few pics from my cannon (good photos still to come).

That first shot is me at the top of 5 fingers. Yes, I'm proud of how well that six cylinder did. You can spend thousands on mods for your truck and get a 80/lx. Or you can spend thousands on an 80/lx and every one says "you guna wheel dat thang?" Unhuh.

There was a Land Rover class which was in session. Every time I rolled up on them they were stopped to watch the one Defender in the group (The teachers truck), do its thing. Go figure. Also, I met Paul in a Suburban, while I was waiting for the rest of the Toys. His truck did well, esspecially for its size. It's dam big.
But it was great wheeling with all those guys. They were great fun. We need to make a weekend of it.
