Strever,

Like 1tontoy said, it is on the firewall, opposite side to the information plaque which you photographed. It is thin, stamped aluminium held on with two rivets. If this is gone, then I don't think the information would be anywhere else. I would not be too fussed about it being registered as an 82- that can definitely work in your favour.:)

As for disk brakes: I think that the only 82 HJ47s which had disk brakes in 1982 were the ones which were sold new in NSW (but they may not have even had then there in 1982). I had a 4/82 HJ47 here which I sold to someone in the States, and it had drums up front. The VIN was HJ47-017822. That was purchased new in Victoria. In 1984 WA, SA, TAS, and NT had drums on the HJ47, but NSW, VIC and ACT had disks (from the information I could find at the Toyota dealer here in Adelaide). Patches (my 4/84 HJ47) has VIN HJ47-031989, and was bought new in Mullumbimby, NSW with factory disks up front. Finally, your information plaque indicates that it came with disks from the factory I believe. This, combined with your VIN leads me to believe that yours is the newest HJ47 on the list:hhmm:...but it's all just for fun anyway.

Mike,

Not sure I have a location to put a V8J43.5 or whatever your stretched machine is called. Maybe I can make a special 'Mike Model' catagory.:)

this thread confirms it; we're all a bunch of nerds!

i was going to say I was not a nerd... but my pocket protector is showing...

I say it is an 84.

We might be nerds, but at least we have really big trucks.:) As I always tell my wife: I'm not obsessed, just really, really focussed.

Josh

Bump. Anyone recommend any particular importer of NZ or AU HJ47s? I know John at Global Classic Imports, and may go with him, but I'd like to know what others there might be and if anyone has any experience with any of them.

That truck looks flawless....

Berry nice!!

tofudebeest,

It really is not hard to import a 25 year old rig into the US. Withe the Aussie dollar bouncing around between us$.63 and us$.72, they are actually quite affordable. The hard part is finding a decent rig here. Bear in mind that Aussies have a different definition of 'well-cared-for' and 'zero rust' than we do. If you can find a rig in Adelaide, I can have a look at it. Otherwise, try to get as many photos of it as you can before you buy. Remember, though: with 40 series Cruisers, almost any rust is repairable...just ask Henry James the 47th.

Cheers,

Josh

1tontoy,

She's a beauty- congratulations!! When does she arrive? What is 'inland'? Canberra? Alice?

Yours is the newest Troopy on the list (which may mean 'in the US, but I don't know), by the way.

Cheers,

Josh

Thanks Josh! She arrived at Port last week and home today. She's from Tourambury (sp?) about 200 miles inland from Melbourne in Victoria, IIRC. I think I mentioned it in a PM some time ago. I actually bought this cruiser some time ago.

I wasn't sure of the condition b/c I didn't really have any good pics, only descriptions. Well, I am PLEASANTLY surprised....not hacked up, not modified, not rattling apart.

Nice little place, Oodnadatta. great little railway museum, great movie theatre (outdoors, bring your own chair). Pink roadhouse is famous.

I've got two troopies and I love them.

Here's an interior pic of my 84 FJ45 troopy. Completley stock, zero rust, 157000k's on the clock:
