I've been collecting parts and finally took advantage of a beautiful spring day here in Northern Nv.

The Makita Cold saw that I'm in love with.

I made a plate that holds the receiver and bolts to a custom crossmember on the rear of the truck.

Another view...I need to shave off another 1/8 from the bumper so the safety chain gusset's sit flush with the bottom of the bumper.

I cut the ends of the bumper at 45* and left them a little long to facilitate swingouts for a tire and wedco diesel cans.

Why? do I need exterior mounts, because I have a matching steel camper shell from the land of Oz that I like and would like to keep it for a sleeping/living area.

I'm not crazy about the 45*. What do you guys think.

Here's one of the shell...

And from the rear...

p.s. I'm not trying to post pad with only one pic per post. I'm new to my Mac and haven't figured out how to do multiple pics per post.

Buy a star. Real easy to post three pics each post then. Works great with my Mac. :flipoff2:

I'm not wild about the 45 degree cut. I don't know why, but I think vertical or near vertical looks best on the 45s. Call me crazy.... It's a simple, boxy shape back there, so a fancy pants bumper just doesn't seem *right* to me.

Also: I love your truck. Looks fantastic. I wish my 45 were that straight.... (yes yes, patience...)

Dan

I'm going to cut it at a 90* for 1 to 2 inches. Then let the 45* go from there.

It's not about the star, it's the whole cut copy....expose' thingy. I had a star and it just ran out. Thanks for the compliments guys.

.

That would be pretty much what I ended up doing on mine. welded nuts inside the endcaps before welding them on so that I would have additional mounting/tie-down points down the road.

I need to get a saw like that.:)

24Hrs:

I love the Toyota emblem in the water/laser cut steel! Those are quite cool! Where can I find those?

Thanks,

Jeff

When you shave off the 1/4 inch from the bumper to move the frame gussets, are you going to have clearance for your receiver pin? Just curious :)

Wow, with my 80 series engine rebuild I forgot about this one. The Toyota emblems are from Blue Torch Fab. Sorry for the delay.

I couldn't figure out what those were when you were on the cover of Toyota Trails. Thanks. I kept coming back to your pic, which is what I am ending up with.

The saw is the most impressive metal tool I have. I even like it better than my Millermatic 251. Milwaukee just came out with one that sports a 14" blade. That'd be the one to get. Cold saws are the only way to go.

Yes. It only looks tight in the picture. It's kind of deceiving.

Deceiving it is :)

Where does this project stand now? Any updates?? Need pictures for ides on my bumper build!! :)

It hasn't moved since I tore into the 80. Sorry.
