They are doing my title work as we speak...and asked me about the gross vehicle weight of my truck. I told her i had no idea..but i figured somewhere around 4100lbs. Anyone know the actual weight of a 1977 HJ45 ?

should be on the plate on the firewall

I don't have a plate anywhere on my firewall. The only ID plate i have was located behind the battery on the passenger side of the wheel well and it's just the trim tag.

I don't know if they are different from one country to the next but my Canadian spec. 78 FJ45 says 6700 Lbs / 3040 Kg on the tag in the drivers door jamb.

Excellent !! That's exactly what i was looking for. Thank you sir ! :bounce::clap::bounce2:

No biggie -:meh: all I had to do was get off my leather lazy-boy and walk 40' to the garage. Of course I had to open the door and tilt my head to read the tag :hillbilly:

That had to be the easiest process i have ever gone thru to get a title. Once i got the Toyota's gross vehicle weight, i had a meeting with out local county judge.Took all of 10 minutes. He looked over the piece of paper i got from the PO where he scribbled that he sold the L.C. to me, looked at the document i had to verify the chassis number, and said..."OK.. no problem". He signed a statement that the woman in the regristration department made, and she mailed it off. Said i would have a nice new title in 2 week! I'm soooo excited !

In the papers on my HJ45 it says 2060 kg. but the actual weight is 2280 (I'm about 80kg) with almost full tank and me in it. It's European spec.
can`t believe* that, my FJ45 says 3025kg

* must be a special norwegian spec.

We have a weigh station about 15 miles from my house. I installed their A/C so they own me one. I think i will get an actual weight of my HJ once it's road worthy.

GVWR vs Actual (Tare)

Don't forget that the GVW of a vehicle is the MAXIMUM weight of the vehicle and it's contents (loaded) allowed. That amount will vary from place to place and is determined by the local authorities (I think) as well as the manufacturer and the class of vehicle (we all know Toyotas are first class ;)). GVW affects breaking and also the life of road surfaces and bridges and that is why the authorities care what it weighs. The weight of the vehicle itself is called the Tare Weight. If you squint just right you will notice my blurry tag above also shows the GVWR breakdown between front and rear axles.

interesting

The tag from my truck says the front axle will take a maximum of 3065 Lbs and the rear 4880 Lbs which added together makes 7945Lbs. That is greater than the GVWR stated at 6700 Lbs.

I believe the explanation is that each axle has a maximum and the two added together cannot exceed the GVW at any one point in time. So I could load up the bed until the rear axle hits 4880 Lbs and then the front could not be more than 1820 Lbs to stay under 6700 total.

From the stats listed ... it's showing that a FJ45 should get around 16 mpg hwy. Being that i have a HJ and more than likely its a little heavier than the FJ because of the diesel ... i wonder what my mileage will be. I would expect it to be around the same as your FJ.

you will burn approximately 25-30 % less. *
Diesel engines are more effective, can drive my
BJ43 with 9 Liter/100km,
FJ45 needs circa 17 Liter/1ookm
Cheers
Peter

*... if your diesel fuel injection (expensive part ) is in good / exellent condition

Pictures for Henry

Henry James the 47th has requested more and better images of the GVW tag in the hopes of doing a reproduction for his truck. Well I did more but note much better... hopefully you can get what you need from these. The tag is 3.432" x 1.707"
