Looks like I might be moving to Nairobi for a few years for work ( depending on the contract )

Started looking at some 70 series pickups... which I can subsidize through work

booya

these look pretty good and are decent price ( in kenyan shillings )

Haven't been on here in a bit. Got married and divorced again, and sold the fj40 hehe.

Cheers fellas

I thought that if you owned a vehicle for 2 years you could bring it back into the US. If that is the case, you could buy something newer (assume the cost is within budget).

I worked in the Philippines and thought about doing something like this but never did.

However, laws may have changed.

Go luck in your travels.

Hmmmm I will have to check in on that.

I found a few 2010 fj70 rigs for 12000 usd.

I would be their for a minimum of 2 years

Thanks brother

Don’t buy an fzj7x (if that even an option in Africa. Get the HZ motor.

I have zero experience in sub Sahara, buy what the locals buy for fuel type is probably the best practice. I believe F-motor 7Xs are European and S American and not of the 07+ vintage. Petrol motor would be the GR motor for the modern 7X. I can’t imagine any circumstance the GR would be better than an HZ or VD motor unless diesel supply was unreliable.

That 96 75 series is well priced if its a diesel and has 250000klms or so. I think they were the pinnacle of the 7* series for long distance remote area travel. Utterly dependable with a bit of LWB comfort on bad roads. Bonus if it has dual tanks.

That is the diesel motor correct? ( yup they have diesel options )

The ads for trucks can be somewhat unspecific. but the prices are alright.

this looks petrol though

HZJ = 1HZ diesel engine
FZJ = 93- petrol engine
FJ = older petrol engine

Nope. That is not how it works.
If that was so, we would see two year old 7* series trucks all over the US.

Unfortunately I think the 25 year rule is pretty well set in stone. If you are certain of the 2+ years of work you could of course buy a 23 year old truck. I doubt that with where you are going prices would jump at the 25 year point but I suspect they would in Europe.

Sounds like an adventure indeed. Hope it goes awesome.
